Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Controls & Automation Engineer in our Pittsburgh, PA office. You will support our senior and intermediate engineers in delivering projects which involve power distribution, instrumentation, and controls engineering. You will also be responsible for assisting the development and management of assigned project work during all phases, from inception trough planning, design & construction in accordance with the project scope, schedule, and budget.

Reports to: Regional Manager, Control, Automation & Electrical, USA

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Managing and executing small to medium sized mining and industrial mineral processing type projects; Developing front end engineering scopes of work, man-hour budgets, cost estimates and staffing requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all engineering activates.
  • Collaboration with project team from concept to completion.
  • Provision of cost estimates in small to large sized projects in collaboration with all other disciplines.
  • Full knowledge, understanding and application of Electrical Codes, Standards and Regulations.
  • Collaboration with project management/engineering staff to achieve project objectives.
  • Enforcement of technical policies and procedures and advise project team of their assignments and deadlines.
  • Promotion of safe work practices and ensuring that team members conduct work in accordance with company safety and quality policies and procedures; Participation in regular project meetings and assessment of ongoing project needs.
  • Interaction, organization and administration of client relationships.
  • Provision of technical support to clients and junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Preparation and review of all engineering documentation within discipline including, but not limited to, the following documents, lists, calculations and detail drawings; Instrumentation and Controls Design Criteria, Control Philosophy and conceptual design of industrial control systems, Control Narratives, instrument index, I/O lists, instrumentation calculations, data sheets, specifications, selection and sizing, P&ID’s, system architecture drawings, instrument location drawings, installation detail drawings, wiring and interconnection diagrams, ISA loop drawings, motor control schematics.
  • Overseeing production of scope of work documentation, engineering and construction work packages and performing quality checks and verification of compliance to all relevant standards and internal procedures; Checking and verifying construction drawings, vendor drawings, material requisitions and approval of bid tabulations and field checkout; Construction support, commissioning and start-up assistance.

You bring to the role:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with a strong interest in industrial process control, automation and computer systems.
  • At least five (5) years experience specializing in the design of industrial instrumentation and control systems for mining and mineral processing type projects.
  • Versed in current statutory regulations, industry standards and recommended practices and a practical sense in applying such references; DCS and PLC control system hardware and architecture; SIS systems hardware and architecture;
  • Excellent planning and execution drive to deliver results and meet quality, cost and schedule targets.
  • Plant site instrumentation, control systems, control valves, and communications.
  • Practical instrumentation system reliability, maintenance and repair standards; Understanding of Electrical hazardous area classifications and specification of plant site equipment; Electrical and instrument fittings and interfaces.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality programs and procedures.
