We are a contemporary hotel with 116 guestrooms and this allows us to offer a very personal experience. Our location in the SOMA District is also home to a variety of shops, businesses, restaurants, and nightlife, as well as walking distance to Chinatown and Union Square. The Powell Street BART station is just around the corner and the trolley cars are right on Market Street.
ABOUT OUR POSITION
Our Controller is responsible for providing the financial expertise to enable the successful implementation of the brand service strategy and brand initiatives while maximizing the return on investment to the owners and Viceroy Hotel Group. In addition, creates and executes a business plan that is aligned with the property and brand's business strategy and focuses on the execution of financial and accounting activities and the delivery of desirable financial results.
SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY
-Develops means to improve profit, including estimating cost and benefit, exploring new business opportunities, etc.
-Analyzes information, forecasts sales against expenses and creates annual budget plans.
-Thinks creatively and practically to develop, execute and implement new business plans.
-Creates the annual operating budget for the property.
-Provides analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost saving and productivity opportunities for property managers.
-Implements a system of appropriate controls to manage business risks.
-Ensures a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability.
-Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan which is aligned with the company's and brand's strategic direction.
-Produces accurate forecasts that enable operations to react to changes in the business.
-Utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others; advocates sound financial/business decision making; demonstrates honesty/integrity; leads by example.
-Leverages strong functional leadership and communication skills to influence the executive team, the property's strategies and to lead own team.
-Manages communication with owners in an effective manner.
-Manages property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand SOPs and owner requirements.
-Ensures that the P&L is accurate (e.g., costs are properly matched to revenue, costs are recorded in the proper accounts).
-Knowledge of local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (local GAAP).
-Ability to read and understand basic contract elements, e.g. royalty fees, management agreement, terms, priorities and profit distribution.
-Business Acumen - Understanding and utilizing business information (e.g., data used in the VHG -Balanced Scorecard related to Colleague Loyalty, Guest Satisfaction, and Property Financial -Performance) to manage everyday operations and generate innovative solutions to approach business and administrative challenges.
-Five year's minimum luxury hotel financial management experience.
-Previous experience working with third party ownership groups preferred.
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
