Simple Energy is an early stage Boulder, CO-based venture-backed SaaS Software and eCommerce company. We are also a Certified B-Corp and a graduate of the TechStars accelerator program. We work with electric and gas utilities to help motivate and enable customers to save energy via targeted motivational messaging and its instant-rebate eCommerce platform. To date, we’ve raised over $10mm from leading Silicon Valley and Boulder VCs and angel investors; we currently have 75+ employees.

The Controller will be responsible for establishing, monitoring, and enforcing accounting policies and procedures to insure the accuracy of the financialreporting and adherence to Board of Directors and GAAP requirements.

The Controller’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage accounting and IS (information systems) personnel (currently team of 4 and growing)
  • Develop and manage financial controls
  • Develop, implement, and monitor accounting policies
  • Analyze and develop operational efficiencies
  • Oversee implementation and management of software used in operations
  • Develop growth plans for resource scaling in-line with company overall growth plans
  • Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash processes
  • Monitor financial performance of the company
  • Assist FP&A with quarter and annual forecasting
  • Compile and analyze monthly financialreporting packages
  • Manage annual financialaudits with 3rd party accounting firm

Other requirements & preferred items

  • Bachelordegree from an accredited 4-year college or university with a major within a business, accounting, or finance field
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or CA)
  • Minimum 10 years accounting experience and 5 years accounting or financial management
  • Aptitude for understanding various business models and processes
  • Ability to project manage, including creation through launch
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to “roll-up your sleeves” as needed
  • Preferred: working knowledge of NetSuite
