Controller Job Description 

Reports to: VP of Finance/CFO

Direct reports: 3 direct and 5 indirect

Company Description:

Our Client is the industry’s leading domestic manufacturer of high-quality electronic systems products used in the Aerospace & Defense spectrum. They are the largest and broadest segment a Fortune 500 supplier of high technology products to aerospace prime contractors as well as defense and government customers.

 

Scope of Responsibilities: 

  • This is a hands on position overseeing 3 direct and 5 indirect reports supporting 2 sites in California
  • Determine the proper revenue recognition technique for each contract. (Knowledge of SOP 81-1 / SAB 104 and ASC 606)
  • Implementation / transition to the new revenue standard ASC 606 — Revenue From Contracts With Customers
  • Insure that the division is following all corporate policies and Sarbanes Oxley controls and adjust division’s procedures as necessary
  • Prepare, forecast and /or review financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow)
  • Supervise employees performing accounting, payroll, and financialreporting functions
  • Assist in audits including Financial Y/E, DCAA and DCMA, etc.
  • Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers of the division
  • Analyze balance sheet for accuracy and reasonableness
  • Prepares taxreports: sales, payroll and personal property taxes
  • Reconcile bank statements and payables
  • Maintain fixed assets system; assist with fixed asset inventory when required
  • Provide input and review of the yearly tax package
  • Review / Prepare Monthly Journal Entries
  • Review intercompany invoices
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • This position also supports a division near Santa Barbara, CA

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPARequired (Big 4 or National CPA firm experience a plus)
  • Working knowledge of revenue standard ASC 606 — Revenue From Contracts With Customers (POC)
  • Public Accounting Experience a Must (GAAP)
  • Experience working in a defense contractor or an Engineering/Manufacturing environment (Knowledge of GAAP, CAS and FAR)
  • Positive attitude a must
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Pays attention to details
  • Teamwork at all organizational levels
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities & projects
  • Committed to timely/accurate results and meeting deadlines
  • High proficiency in PC applications (especially Microsoft office suite). Hands on experience with HFM a plus.
