The ideal candidate is an intellectually curious CPA who keeps current on emerging accounting rules and takes pride in efficient, timely and accurate reporting; a coach/mentor who wants to develop a team of high-performing individuals; and a collaborative, deep thinker who can partner with the CFO to tackle Handle’s toughest financial issues.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the day to day operations of the accounting group, including:
    • Organizational structure of the department
    • Cash management
    • Timely and accurate publishing of reporting and financial statements
    • Payroll processing
    • Maintenance of internal controls for all financial activities
  2. Independently manage external relationships with key finance partners, including audit and insurance relationships; co-manage (with the CFO) banking and debt relationships
  3. Research and address technical accounting issues/questions, complying with and staying current on federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation and enforcing adherence to requirements
  4. Oversee all equity management activities, including working with external counsel to maintain cap table and appropriate record keeping
  5. Ensure the organization is in compliance with variousobligations, including:
    • Coordinating the provision of information to investors, external auditors, and others
    • Complying with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements, tax filings and money transmission licensing requirements
    • Escalating emerging issues that could impact overall solvency, business operations, regulatory standing or revenue generation opportunities
  6. Work with other departments to understand partner and regulator drivenfinancialrequirements, and ensure those requirements are met
    • Review contracts for payment terms and settlement obligations to ensure that the provisions are correct and enforceable (from a systems perspective)
  7. Act as a thought partner with the CFO, working collaboratively to think through the big picture and problem solve

Desired Qualifications: The Controller candidate should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation a plus
  • 7+ years of progressively responsibleexperience in accounting functions; experience with money transmitters and/or financial services a plus
  • Proactive, positive attitude; excited for the next challenge and ready to tackle any issue
  • Desire to coach and develop a team of high-performing professionals
  • Ability to think strategically and work with other departments to creatively problem solve
  • Experience managing external partners, including contract negotiation and partner management
  • Experience with Intacct a plus
