Control Engineer

The Position,

Our client is seeking a Lead Controls Engineer for our Autonomously Guided Vehicles, also known as AGV products. In this role, you will report to the Senior Manager of Electrical & Controls Engineering; you will oversee, lead, and be accountable for the design and development of the electrical and controls systems of the projects from concept, preliminary and detailed design and development including testing of the electrical, electronics, and controls systems and software.

The Lead Controls Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring a highly reliable product that meets all functional, performance, quality and safety specifications while delivering on unique technical features on-time and budget. Not only will you act as the Electrical/Controls technical lead on various projects, but you will also supervise a team of engineers on these projects and be a key resource to mentor other team members.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited too:

  • Support the Project Team to develop potential electrical/controls design solutions to meet functional and performance requirements of the proposed ride system and as defined by our customers
  • Support the Project Technical Lead with review and approval of work breakdown/authorization structures and design requirements in compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide feedback on a team of engineers
  • Liaise with Project Management, other departments, and external contractors to ensure necessary information flow
  • Actively prepare for, and present project status reports in client review meetings, including responding to client questions and changes driven by project requirements
  • Oversee design of electrical & electronic components, controls, software, and integrated systems
  • Understand code requirements for North America, Europe and CSEI requirements for China
  • Provide technical support for all processes (e.g., design verification, production, prototyping) relating to the electrical/controls components of your projects, including travel to international project sites for project commissioning
  • Review and approve engineering drawings and analyses, technical documents, and process specifications
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes: ECOs, NCRs, and ICNs
  • Participate in and ensure compliance with third-party reviews (e.g., TUV Design Review, CSEI Design Review)
  • Lead preparation of proposals for scheduling and bidding purposes, including preliminary design, concept development, and man-hour estimation
  • Coordinate and supervise electrical, controls and other engineering contractors


  • Minimum ten years' experience in electrical/controls engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years' supervisory experience leading multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Direct experience in the development and integration of wireless navigation systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with project management and inter-disciplinary teams to adapt technical deliverables to unique and changing requirements
  • Familiar with electrical standards: ASTM F24, IEEE, NEC, EN13814
  • Knowledge of safety standards EN/ISO 13849, EN/IEC 62061
  • Designing and programming Safety PLC Systems, Allen-Bradley, and Siemens
  • Communication protocols: TCP/IP, serial, PROFINET, PROFIsafe, Ethernet/IP, CIP Safety
  • Variable Frequency and Servo Drives
  • Third-party review processes such as TUV Design Review or CSEI
  • Communication systems and modeling and control
  • Working with and leading Agile development teams
  • Design, qualification testing, and commissioning of high-reliability systems
  • Experience in project engineering, specifically systems engineering (e.g., hazard analysis, fault tree, the theory of operation, risk/requirements management, FMEA, and FMECA)
  • Willing and able to travel to international project sites, potentially for extended periods
  • Demonstrated ability to execute under pressure and tight timelines
  • Fluency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills
