Firmwide Control Management Organization (CMO) was designed to ensure a strong and consistent control environment across the organization from front office to back office, regardless of business area or location. With Control Officers appointed for each business area and region we have a comprehensive coverage/accountability model that promotes firmwide dialogue and consistency in approach and solutions. CMO strives to ensure appropriate and meaningful controls and operational risk measures across the firm and enterprise-wide governance and oversight of the end-to-end control environment.

The Chase Commerce Solutions Controls Team's primary function is to implement an effective control framework across the Commerce Solutions organization, looking within and potential across the lines of business, to identify and remediate control issues with a sense of urgency regardless of the source.

The Team partners with all other control disciplines, adding an additional line of defense supporting Compliance, Risk and Audit, among others. The Team works in partnership on the development of new, and oversight of existing, control functions and protocols throughout the Firm and provides a centralized view of and from all control functions, assisting in immediate, real time problem detection and escalation.

The Control Manager will provide coordination of key all control activities within a segment of the Commerce Solutions line of business. This role will ensure the implementation and maintenance of Chase's Operational Risk Management (ORM) Framework. The Control Manger will: develop, implement, and maintain framework policies, standards and technology; provide oversight on compliance with Chase ORM policy; and provide SME collaboration with the business unit and/or corporate functions to implement and maintain required control management practices. This person will work closely with a Testing Specialists, assessment of risks to the control environment and execution of specialized and routine controls testing. Other responsibilities include long range planning, interfacing with the various control functions and integration of testing activities with the Risk & Control Self-Assessment process.

This role will require interaction with other LOB control teams to ensure the control agenda is managed effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with key stakeholders in the business, to meet the rigorous demands of the various programs and Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) deliverables.
  • Partner effectively with business and functional colleagues to guide consistent and rigorous JPM operational risk management practices, including: risk committees, risk & control self-assessments (RCSAs), risk acceptances, privacy reviews, risk event analysis, operational risk / loss management reporting, and related action plans.
  • Review processes and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness and assist in implementing new procedures when required (ability to evaluate the general risks faced and the impact of those risks on the enterprise as a whole).
  • Advise business of risks and is a proactive, independent advisor to the assigned business, identifying business risk issues and recommending solutions.
  • Ability to influence and manage without direct control hierarchy.
  • Facilitate end to end reviews and deep dives across the business units.
  • Partner with leadership in driving open discussion of issues and control gaps.
  • Sustain best practice framework for defining, reviewing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and process documentation.
  • Maintain strong and collaborative working relationship with Audit, Compliance, and IT Risk Management.
  • Generate and/or publish recurring risk reporting (i.e. scorecards, action plan updates).
  • Ensure bank regulatory requirements are communicated and met by partnering with compliance.
  • Coordinate with the Controls Examination Management team on internal and external audit examination activities for impacted business units.
  • Support business units with root cause analysis of key control events.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is enthusiastic and has a keen interest in assisting the business in the identification of risk and implementation of controls that mitigate the risks, while supporting the business in performing their critical business functions.

The successful candidate will demonstrate good organizational skills, and will be able to deal with issues independently even when working under pressure with challenging deadlines. Given that the role will involve communicating with employees of varying levels, with diverse functions roles, the individual will need strong communication and negotiation skills.

  • Minimum of 7+ years' experience in/knowledge of more than one of the following areas: banking or credit card operations, oversight and controls, audit, compliance, or operations control
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Strong leadership skills, project management skills, and analytics and excel in communications (both written and verbal).
  • Proficiency with the identification of organizational risks and the implementation and management of controls within a line of business.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present information in differing degrees of detail and form depending on the audience ? Strong organizational and prioritization skills ? Ability to multi task and deliver to a tight deadline
  • Experienced and proven ability to gather/analyze complex data, develop accurate conclusions and provide recommendations with sufficient comprehension of the business to understand risk implications
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at all levels across all functions
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and matrixed environment to build consensus
  • Ability to work with internal groups including legal, audit, risk to ensure consistent understanding of requirements
  • Experience in business process analysis, documenting gaps and process standardizations
  • Experience identifying strategic improvements and delivering measurable change
  • Some travel required
