Instagram seeks an experienced Consumer Communications Director to develop consumer PR programs that support the company's rapid global growth and adoption. This position will report to Instagram's Head of Communications and will oversee a growing team of experienced vertical and consumer communications experts, working closely with Instagram's partnership, product, community, and marketing teams.


This is a full-time position based in Menlo Park, CA, Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, or New York, NY.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead consumer communications for Instagram, setting strategy with Instagram's communications, partnership, marketing, and community teams across areas like entertainment, music, sports, photography and fashion
  • Develop press strategies around high profile and emerging events in the US and internationally, and provide strategic guidance for how data is used to inform or contribute to vertical press campaigns
  • Manage communications around high profile partnerships with brands, publishers and public figures
  • Maintain a close working partnership with Facebook's consumer PR and partnership leads to stay coordinated on plans
  • Put systems and processes in place to connect Instagram's global PR teams and agencies to learnings and best practices from our vertical efforts in the United States
  • Drive growth and business goals in key regions working with growth, partnerships and community teams
  • Provide mentorship and support to our communications team around areas such as crisis management, strategic decision making, and employee development
  • Lead development and coordination of executive briefing materials and country-level information for key international trips, events and press
  • Ensure our key messaging, narratives and FAQs scale to international teams and spokespeople
  • Work with finance and HR teams to ensure our teams and agencies are set up with the budgets and resources they need to scale

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, English or related field
  • 14+ years of experience, both agency and in-house, with consumer, vertical and partnership communications experience
  • Experience managing campaigns and issues with partners and public figures
  • Experience working with startups and/or consumer internet companies
  • Experience managing agencies and putting in place scalable processes to drive and measure results
  • Experience drafting messaging materials and working with cross-functional groups

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive social, influencer, and teen Public Relations or Marketing experience
  • Strong project management and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge for the product Instagram and opportunity
  • Strong leader with extensive experience for helping teams succeed, and working in a fast-paced and growing cross-functional environment
  • Background managing and scaling large global press campaigns and initiatives in areas related to areas like fashion, sports, entertainment or news
