Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for an Adult Psychiatrist with an interest in a primarily community focused practice.
The position will entail providing leadership and direct patient care for clients served by the Edmonton and Sub-Urban Mental Health Clinics. This team operates under the Community Mental Health Service and provides service to our most vulnerable adults with complex and chronic mental health needs.
The successful candidate will be the primary psychiatrist providing direct care of Severe and Persistent clients for the purpose of initial assessments, treatment care planning, pharmacological & non-pharmacological management including group psychotherapy, and follow-up at the Edmonton Mental Health Clinic. Primary location will be the 108 St Mental Health Clinic and would work in other suburban clinic sites. They will be expected to participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and provide support to the team clinicians as required. There will be opportunities to work in collaboration with other psychiatrists and inter-disciplinary team members.
The Psychiatrist recruited to this position will also be will require specific skills and training in all aspects of general adult psychiatry including young adults, acute care and consultation as well as experience in community and rehabilitation psychiatry.
There will be an expectation for physicians to provide post-discharge follow-up at a community clinic as part of routing care and to participate in the Community on Call program for the Access 24/7 program, located at Anderson Hall on the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus.
It is the expectation of this position that the successful applicant will participate in quality improvement initiatives within the program.
Successful candidates will be expected to be actively involved in resident training, including seeking a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment within the Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered a separate process via the University of Alberta.
The successful candidates must have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have completed advanced training in General Adult Psychiatry or have a General Adult Psychiatry background, and must have specialist qualifications, such as FRCPC or equivalent.
Candidates with an interest in working as part of an interdisciplinary team, enthusiasm with teaching and experience in leadership roles are preferred.
