Overview:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management and quality assurance of the firm's construction program. They will ensure construction projects are budgeted properly, staffed with qualified and trained Construction Observers (utilizing in-house or contract employees), completed on time and to the client's satisfaction, evaluated on performance and that "lessons learned" from construction activities are adequately provided to the design teams for improvement of design delivery systems (i.e. standard specifications). A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

In addition, the qualified candidate will work in the field as a Construction Observer potentially overseeing multiple projects at one time. Experience in managing, training and developing people is required. Developing and maintaining relationships with every member of the project team both internally and externally will be critical. Experience with a variety of city and town officials, architects, engineers and owners representatives is a plus.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Develop standardized systems and tools for construction administration
  • Develop a proactive training program for construction personnel
  • Assess and develop strategic relationships with outside Construction Observers
  • Visit and/or actively participate in construction projects to ensure that systems are being utilized effectively
  • Confer with subordinate supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems
  • Determine labor requirements and dispatch workers to construction sites
  • Schedule the project in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines

Requirements:

At least 10 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline preferred.

Building and Construction – Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures such as utilities, highways and roads.

Design – Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, specifications, drawings, and models.
