Construction/Project Manager

Description

Plan, organize, and direct the activities associated with the construction of structures, facilities and systems.  Develop and manage project and contract budgets.  Provide administration of contract and contract requirements.  Perform as the owner’s representative to oversee the work of contractors.

 

Knowledge and understanding of principals and practices of highway and bridge construction.  Knowledge and understanding of project controls, including CPM Scheduling, cost estimating, constructability reviews, contract administration, and claims analysis.  Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.  Ability to communicate both in writing and orally.  Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience managing construction projects, including 2 years of supervisory experience.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:  Review construction plans and specifications.  Prepare and negotiate contracts, contract revisions and changes.  Evaluate construction methods and make recommendations to most cost effective and efficient means of performing work.  Prepare, monitor and manage construction budgets.  Inspect the work of contractors to determine compliance with contract plans and specifications.  Review and analyze project schedules.  Ability to maintain and update project schedules.  Prepare monthly project reports.  Supervise the work of junior project engineers and staff engineers.  The ability to write proposals, supervise staff, business development is a must.  This person may be assigned as a CM or PM on various projects including VDOT, Loudoun County, PWC, MWAA etc.

 

OTHER JOB DUTIES:  Perform construction management support services as assigned, including constructability reviews, cost estimating, claims analysis, proposal preparation and business development.  Prepare project status and monthly status reports.  Prepare and manage project/task budgets.  Participate in interviewing of junior project engineers.  Provide technical guidance to engineering staff.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  This position may be assigned to a field project office or to a client’s office.

 

SUPERVISES: Engineers and field construction/inspection staff.

 

 

Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSURE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 10 Years experience as a mid-level Construction Manager, a PE is required.  Degree in engineering or construction management.  NICET, EIT or other professional/technical certification and registration a plus.  Understanding of VDOT policies and programs required.  Both VDOT/Transportation experience and some heavy civil experience is preferred and the ability to write proposals, supervise staff, business development is a must.  This person may be assigned as a CM or PM on various projects including VDOT, Loudoun County, PWC, MWAA etc.
