Our client, a heavy equipment company, is actively seeking a Technical Training Manager to join their growing team in Poughkeepsie, NY. The successful Technical Training Manager will have experience in management of the training function, heavy equipment, and strong technical acumen.

Job Description

Oversee technical training of technician workforce to improve performance and productivity in a way that satisfies all stakeholders' needs

  • Ensure that technical training needs of individual technicians and the organization overall are identified with input from service management across all divisions (assess technical training needs)
  • Manage the development of Individual Learning Plans for technicians at all levels including the onboarding process
  • Oversee planning and scheduling of identified technical training based on prioritization of needs
  • Manage the delivery of identified technical training through internal Technical Trainers, WBT, and through identification and utilization of vendors
  • Personally deliver training as needed

Support on-going development of employees for growth and stability

  • Ensure on the job application expectations for training participants are identified for each training program (performance standards)
  • Work with Service Managers, Foremen, and Supervisors to track and evaluate on the job application of technical concepts to ensure expectations identified for each program are being met on the job
  • Manage and report on both quantitative and qualitative metrics for all technical training programs
  • Regularly review and ensure that all equipment (electrical, electronics, mechanical, etc.) required for training is available and up-to-date

Manage the overall growth and maintenance of H.O. Penn as an industry leader/technical resource

  • Ensure all product support and sales personnel are kept abreast of technological advances through New Product Updates and Introductions (online and at branch locations)
  • Coordinate customer training by identifying training needs and ensuring delivery when appropriate
  • Work with Corporate Recruiter/HR to establish a long term recruiting strategy and assist in the technician recruitment and interview process
  • Work with Technical/Vocational schools to develop relationships and leverage those relationships to contribute to the technical recruitment effort

Staff and develop people to achieve all key results

  • Build & maintain environment characterized by high productivity and high morale and select people through effective use of the HDW process
  • Effectively manage employee performance (goal-setting, providing feedback, coaching, timely reviews, recognition, holding people accountable, etc.)
  • Develop people to consistently achieve or exceed job expectations
  • Ensure a culture of safety through ongoing communication and timely completion of safety initiatives and reinforcing safe work habits

Qualifications

  • Strong Technical acumen required with experience as a Construction Equipment technician required
  • Experience in management of the training function required
  • Management or supervisory experiencepreferred
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively, manage projects, and work with multiple stakeholders to assess needs and deliver solutions
  • Experience in design and delivery of training Strong communication, presentation, writing, analysis, & organizational skills are required
  • Proficiency in PC use, including MS Office & ability to learn new PC applications is required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to travel regularly (some overnight).
