Position Summary

The Integrated Design Manager is responsible for successful delivery of McCarthy projects by organizing the design participants, process and technology. Participants include the design team(s) and trade partners when projects utilize design build, design assist or other alternate delivery methods. This position requires proactive management of the design process with all parties ensuring coordinated documents that support the project goals for safety, quality, cost, scope, schedule and execution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate project participants and owners/shareholders, design phase processes and services, contract terms and technology and systems to maximize project efficiency
  • Assess and mitigate risks through proactive management of design process
  • Oversee implementation of McCarthy quality program and procedures as well as building codes and regulation compliance during design process
  • Coordinate with project teams, owner stakeholders and vendors to ensure clear project direction, scheduling efficiency, quality design document delivery and adherence to requirements in design documents
  • Manage the design review process with design team and client, and the design document control using 3D and 2D file management systems
  • Work with VDC manager to develop and implement project-specific BIM execution plans
  • Coordinate proposal submissions, working with preconstruction staff to ensure design solutions align with strategy
  • Become familiar with scopes, budgets and project development agreements to ensure McCarthy is always in compliance
  • Coordinate permits for construction and utility services with owner, developing relationships with key players
  • Asist in development of target value design and value analysis, providing oversight of and managing communication about design development and cost management

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Architecture required
  • 10+years of proven, hands-on experience managing and coordinating design or construction phases of a project
  • Specific technical expertise in building enclosures or MEP systems preferred
  • History of affiliation with professional organizations preferred (i.e. AIA, CSI, ASHRAE, DBIA, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other design-phase applications
  • Ability to assess team performance and utilize best practices to facilitate teamwork, collaboration and achieve positive project outcomes
  • Process oriented with excellent facilitation and communication skills
  • Good understanding of technical, design, operational and legal aspects of building systems and design
