The Design Director brings curiosity, empathy, and interpretive skills to bear on all aspects of our design work and models these qualities for the entire design team, which includes both visual and interaction designers. They will capably lead cross-functional teams through the design process, using their deep experience of design and business strategy to generate creative solutions that help clients stand out in the marketplace and lead their industries.
Your key responsibilities
1. The Design Directorworks with the Executive Creative Director and/or Creative Director to establish the design direction, processes, and workflows of visual design work. They will also play a role in the growth and mentorship of the visual design team. The design director leverages insight and strategy to inform the visual design direction of digital products. They will focus on craft and the execution of an idea and how it applies and adapts to a range of platforms and devices to create a cohesive design system.
2. Supervisory Responsibilities
a. Responsible for the mentorship and career path management of those visual design team members pursuing the design director path
b. Weekly check-ins with direct reports to maintain open dialogue about existing workload, goals, challenges, and growth/education opportunities
c. Tracking and conducting annual performance reviews (and optional mid-year review) with direct reports as a part of career path management

? Establish the design direction of UI-based client work, leveraging insight and strategy to inform design decisions, direction, and execution
? Understand client/brand needs, the needs of their customers, and translate those needs into compelling design systems and other visual communications
? Focus on craft and the technical execution of an idea and how it applies and adapts to a range of platforms and devices to create a cohesive design system.
? Establish the processes and workflows of visual design teams to ensure design directions can be applied consistently across a range of platforms and devices
? Collaborate across disciplines (IxD, VxD, and technology) to ensure the delivery of compelling and highly functional digitalexperiences
? Work with the Creative Director and project management team to develop processes and define resourcing to meet project needs
? Grow and mentor the design team
To qualify for the role you must have
? 5+ years design experience in a web and/or digital product environment
? 1+ years managing/mentoring team members in a web and/or digital product environment
? 1+ years as a design director in a web and/or digital product environment
? BFA in Design (or similar degree)
Ideally, you’ll also have
? A passion for learning about the world, human behavior, and the motivations that lie beneath the surface to create solutions that fit into people’s lives
? Strong leadership skills and an ability to manage multiple clients and projects
? Strong oral, written, and presentation skills
? A strong knowledge of interaction design, visual design, technology, usability, and experience design
? An in-depth understanding of modern design workflows (e.g., Sketch, Zeplin, InVision, etc.) and a working knowledge of front-end technologies
? An ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary groups.
