JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, is responsible for the engineering, management and support of a complex multi-tiered, interdependent server ecosystem, focusing on delivering quality system services to the business. Performs all operational functions for deployment, including design, installation, capacity planning, upgrades, configuration, patch management and backups of vital services to provide high availability, high performance and highly secure service implementations.
Ensures systems meet industry standard best practices. Coordinates closely with HIT functional teams and users to ensure the best possible user experience.
Provides systems administration technical expertise in support of network, communications and core business functions. Evaluates end user needs, goals, budgets in conjunction with application parameters to define overall system requirements and technical design. Relies on extensive knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals.
Evaluates existing systems and designs/flowcharts proposed systems. Installs, monitors and manages servers and customer end-points, resolves issues as needed. Installs system and application patches and performs system backups and recovery. Monitors system configuration and manages log files. Develops user guides, technical procedures and technical architecture documentation.
Designs, installs, and maintains data storage systems and relevant supporting documentation. Resolves issues related to data storage systems. Generates usage reports for submission to leadership. Implements efficient and reliable backup and disaster recovery processes.
Ensures system security through proactive security patch management. Collaborates with Information Systems Security Officer to ensure implementation of industry best-practice system architecture.
Designs, implements and maintains organization’s email system. Establishes user accounts and security guidelines, tracks server performance and provides tier 2 resolution for issues. Monitors existing messaging infrastructure and usage, optimizes system to ensure quality user experience. Documents internal policies or develop training for end-users. Ensures the consistency and compatibility of all messaging applications.
Identifies database requirements by interviewing customers and analyzing department applications, programming, and operations. Makes recommendation on potential solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data backup, and recovery specifications.
Recommends optimal user access techniques. Coordinates installation requirements. Ensures optimal database performance by calculating most efficient values for database parameters;
Implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware platforms.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge in Cloud Design and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
Knowledge in multi-tiered SAN, NAS and direct-attached SAS including ISCSI, Ethernet and FC protocols.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor’s degree in a computer science or related field. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

Computer Systems Administrator I
Non-supervisory – Three (3) years of progressively complex information technology and system administration. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
Supervisory – None
Computer Systems Administrator II
Non-supervisory – Five (5) years of progressively complex information technology and system administration. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
Supervisory – None
Computer Systems Administrator III
Non-supervisory – Seven (7) years of progressively complex information technology and system administration. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
