The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) team can provide you the opportunity to build and operate a suite of massive scale, integrated cloud services in a broadly distributed, multi-tenant cloud environment. OCI is committed to providing the best in cloud products that meet the needs of our customers who are tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges.
We offer unique opportunities for smart, hands-on engineers with the expertise and passion to solve difficult problems in distributed highly available services and virtualized infrastructure. At every level, our engineers have a significant technical and business impact designing and building innovative new systems to power our customer’s business critical applications.
The job of a Solution Architect (SA) is to listen and deeply understand a customer’s business requirements then design and propose solutions that meet those requirements. Solutions need to take into account all of the customers’ requirements, the capabilities of our platform today and into the future as well as the costs to the customer, both financially and operationally.
SAs must be able to work with sales teams to articulate the business and IT value of cloud solutions at large and Oracle IaaS, SaaS and PaaS services specifically. An excellent SA can communicate at multiple levels; they can enable our customers individual contributors as well as leadership. SAs will spend much of their time meeting with customers directly so they must have great soft skills including verbal and written communication and the finesse required with sometimes challenging customer engagements.
Frequently our customers bring us large, difficult, and unique problems to solve. The right solution may require dozens of different Oracle products, services and partner solutions to work together in just the right way. A SA will understand what will and what won’t work both on paper and in practice. An excellent SA should recognize when the complexity of a solution rises to a level that makes it infeasible and will take a step back and simplify.
A Solution Architects deliverable will typically include –
- A fully developed description of the business challenge the customer needs to solve.
- A set of one or more fully documented solutions to that business challenge.
There is rarely a single best solution to a complex problem. An SA must understand their proposed solution well enough to discuss alternatives as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each.
SAs are the technical face of OCI to customers, it’s important that they;
- Put Customers First –
- We put doing the right thing for customers ahead of doing what they specifically say or ask for. In a pre-sales role this can be a difficult thing, a SA must be able to balance the needs of the business with the needs of the customer.
- Own Without Ego –
- SAs champion their solutions; they welcome all help and feedback and recognize and incorporate the best ideas.
- Nail the Basics –
- An SA focuses on fundamentals over flash. They recognize that the path to advanced solutions always runs through the basics.
