Eastman Chemical Company is seeking a Computational Chemist for the Corporate Innovation laboratories located in Kingsport, TN.  This position provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to contribute innovative technology and product development solutions in order to deliver attractive growth options across multiple Eastman businesses.

 

Job Responsibilities:

•           Apply molecular modeling and computational chemistry techniques to innovate and develop specialty advanced materials with an emphasis on polymeric systems

•           Elucidate and exploit deep fundamental understanding of material structure-property-function relationships

•           Guide, provoke, explain, accelerate and complement laboratory experimental work

•           Perform rapid screening of new product concepts via property estimation.  Leverage simulated application data for customer engagement & discovery

•           Custom design specialty molecules & materials to meet customer needs

•           Work in close collaboration with inter-disciplinary teams (technology, business, marketing, external partners) to generate product concepts and advance them into new commercial products for existing and developing businesses

•           Collaborate with and guide open innovation partners at universities

•           Develop simulation protocols, solve complex problems, analyze results and document and communicate conclusions

 

RequiredQualifications:

•           Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related field from an accredited university

•           Graduate research experienceapplying molecular modeling and computational chemistry techniques to polymeric or biopolymeric systems

 

PreferredQualifications:

•           Demonstrated experience with atomistic and mesoscale/coarse grained molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics simulation methods

•           Proficiency with LAMMPS and Q-CHEM software or equivalent

•           Strong record of research accomplishment

•           Ability to apply knowledge and problem solving skills across a wide variety of chemical & polymer systems and their applications

•           Understanding of the physical and chemical properties of small molecules and their influence on polymers or biopolymers

•           Excellent collaboration, communication and presentation skills including the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders across multiple locations

•           Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects simultaneously
