Syros Pharmaceuticals is seeking a scientist with a passion for using analytical techniques to solve critical biology problems. The right candidate will work with highly motivated, cross-disciplinary scientists across multiple disease areas, and will be responsible for implementing analyses that directly enable Syros’s drug discovery platform and clinical programs. Our work focuses on the mechanisms of gene regulation and its control, and a familiarity with this space is crucial. This dynamic role requires the ability to design and analyze high-throughput biological experiments, while providing novel insights and methodologies that will progress the drug discovery program forward. You will join an enthusiastic, agile, fast-paced computational biology & bioinformatics group, and you will have an absolute blast.
Execute computational analyses to enable drug and biomarker discovery on a wide range of projects
Design and analyze medium to high-throughput experiments such as RNA-seq, single-cell RNA seq, nanostring panels, exome-seq, ChIP-seq, pooled CRISPR screens etc
Integrate internal and external datasets to provide novel biological insights
Design quantitative methodologies for any novel biological assay required to progress the drug discovery program
Work closely with bench scientists to provide actionable predictions that can be tested in the lab
Communicate results in both presentation and report formats
Ability to work independently on projects with multiple internal consumers
Creative and analytical problem-solving skills
Willingness to learn and desire to work with sense of urgency
Motivated to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced, and flexible team-oriented environment.
PhD in Computational Biology or related field, or master’s or bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience
Demonstrated experience testing biological hypotheses using genomics datasets
Fluency in R and in one or more programming languages (Perl, Python, or Java)
Experience working within a UNIX environment
Knowledge of transcriptional regulation
Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong background in statistics and/or machine learning preferred
Familiarity with major biological datasets (GEO, TCGA, CCLE, COSMIC, ENCODE) preferred
Knowledge of cancer or rare genetic disease biology preferred
