Super Micro Computer is seeking a Component Engineer to join our growing team in San Jose, CA. This Component Engineer role is primarily responsible for component strategic planning due to technology migration, qualification of quality alternatives, monitoring and execution of validation progress, and collaborating across engineering and purchasing cogitation to meet company goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The job responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Identify sourcing risk exposures and provide recommendations for supply continuity
  • Support impact analysis, strategic planning and monitoring of action plan on technology migration
  • Initiate and support high-quality initiatives through design/spec and/or process improvements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on part selection, risk assessment, design reviews, and proactively drive risk mitigation
  • Perform failure/root cause analysis and mitigate technical component issues by working with engineering, production and suppliers
  • Conduct supplier evaluations for strategic sourcing opportunities
  • Participate in supplier quality evaluations and rating processes


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years’ engineeringexperience in the industrial electronics or a related field
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of key electronic components
  • Understanding and working knowledge of engineering document control practices
  • Understanding supply-line management
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering and business disciplines to meet quality goals
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin
