Responsibilities:

As a Compensation Manager, you will direct the planning, design and implementation of compensation programs for the Principal International (PI) and Principal Global Services (PGS) business units. You’ll be responsible for leading the development and implementation of compensation programs and consult with business unit representatives on compensation matters and competitive positioning.

How you’ll spend your day to day:

  • Advise and consult with senior management on compensation matters and competitive positioning. Provide technical expertise to enable thorough assessment of risk related to non-executive compensation programs to business units to help them achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Assist with the planning, development and design of corporate compensation programs including job evaluation, base pay structure, short term incentives, long term incentives and recognition programs. Evaluate existing programs and develop innovative, fiscally responsible, and competitive options for new or revised programs. Direct research and statistical studies and develop detailed recommendations.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of strategic global compensation policies and practices which are competitive, flexible and integrated with HR systems and reporting.
  • Consult with business unit representatives on compensation matters. Partner on issues such as competitive positioning and responsiveness to external influences such as industry trends and fluctuations in job market pricing. Ensure all federal, state and local laws and regulations concerning wage and salary programs are met. Prepare periodic or special reports. Assist with training of less experienced team members.
  • Lead analyst and consultant through wage and salary survey administration processes. Interpret and analyze complex data. Develop and maintain relationships with consultants and industry contacts. Serve on functional committees inside and outside the company as a representative of Human Resources and the company.
  • Participate in the annual compensation policy and structure review. Assist with recommendations, costs, and compensation policy. Partner with business unit representatives and other areas of HR on the implementation and communication of annual compensation policy and salary administration.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent and 8+ years of related experiencerequired
  • Global compensationexperiencepreferred.
  • Previous leadership experiencepreferred.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation preferred.
  • Must have good business acumen and be able to deal with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of global incentive design concepts and ability to independently lead incentive design process with senior business leaders and other internal stakeholders is required.
  • Must have strong analytical and organizational skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting detailed technical recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Must have strong project management skills and ability to influence others to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Has knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite and strong Excel skills required.
  • Experience using a market survey management system (Pay Factors or similar system) desired.
  • Travel (5%) may be require
