Job Description

The Communications Senior Consultant is an individual contributor role based in Albany, NY and reporting to the External Communications Director. The Communications Senior Consultant will: promote and protect Key’s reputation and brand through proactive and reactive communications strategies at the local and regional level in the Capitol Region and Eastern Pennsylvania markets; strategies will support the business goals of the segments making up Key’s Community Bank footprint. As an expert in strategic positioning, reputation management, media relations (traditional and new/social), proactive publicity, developing and implementing public relations programs/activities and crisis communications, the Communications Senior Consultant, counsels Regional Sales Executives, Market Presidents, Retail Sales Leaders, marketing partners, regional line of business heads, segment/line of business PR partners, and senior management, as appropriate, on opportunities or challenges to Key’s reputation in its regions. Additionally, the Field Communications Senior Consultant provides strategic media counsel and segment PR plan execution, participating in, and integrating with, programs developed by agency partners and/or PR segment Senior Consultants.

  • Promote and protect Key’s brand and reputation: Leverage completed strategic messaging that supports regional goals and objectives.
  • Develop messaging that supports proactive or reactive communications activities.
  • Support maintaining/strengthening existing media relationships; expand relationships or knowledge of emerging media (online, social, etc); provide share of voice into the development of ongoing social media strategies.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and delivery of foundational messaging.

  • Lead the development of regional communications strategies: Develop communications initiatives, to be implemented and executed at the regional or local level that support regional business goals and strategies. Partner closely with Regional Sales Executives, Market Presidents, Retail Sales Leaders, regional segment leaders, marketing, and community relations to develop integrated communications.
  • Optimized approach to market though integrated communications activities
  • Represent communications function as the first point of contact for regional leadership: Serve as the lead contact for regional communications.
  • Monitor established performance metrics and consult with communications and regional leadership to provide insight-driven communications activities that favorably position Key with target audiences.
  • Advance communications strategies, performance, and positioning within target audiences.
  • Inform regional leadership through industry trends and intelligence: Distill national and local competitor, market knowledge and industry trends, and inject into regional initiatives and strategic plans in partnership with Regional Sales Executives, Market Presidents, Retail Sales Leaders, regional segment leaders, marketing, and community relations.
  • Continuous improvement - Communications plans that align with corporate financial objectives and strategies
  • Position Key favorably among the media and other constituencies
  • Advise regional leadership on opportunities to favorably position Key’s products, services, and employees to external audiences: Access business performance metrics and insights to develop communications point of view on business performance.

  • Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
  • 10 years minimum relevant experience
  • 5 years of project and budget management experience
  • Superior written and oral communication skills; proficiency in editorial and proofreading ability
  • Demonstrated creativity and ability to develop innovative, compelling and concise communications Proven ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with limited direction from External Communications Director
  • Ability to produce a large volume of high-quality communications materials with attention to detail
  • Strategic thinker with ability to anticipate client needs and demonstrate level of influence based on business acumen
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in order to accomplish goals in evolving business environment
  • Ability to effectively collaborate; proven track record of solid relationship-building; excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly motivated and energetic with proven ability to influence others, establish priorities and meet deliverables
  • Proven comfort level/experience working with senior to executive level management on sensitive and highly confidential matters
