The Opportunity
As our Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for drafting and distributing external and internal communication plans and tactics. Under direction of our Communications Manager, you will be accountable for WM’s communication strategies as it relates to all media - social media, earned media, product placement and integration, internal media development and ongoing cultivation. This is a one-year contract opportunity and can be based out of Brampton, Ontario office or our Longueuil, Quebec office.

The Day-To-Day
You will engage and assist internal partners with targeted communications for both internal and external audiences, advising management on communications strategies when defining the target audience and mode of communication when drafting, coordinating and executing communication plans and message development.


It will be imperative to cultivate internal partner and external vendor relationships, as there will be involvement in providing in preparing speeches, letters and articles which are to be made public.


With consultation, you will develop external company message positioning on assigned issues and branding and recommend delivery and timing of WM messages to target audiences.  


You will be responsible for WM’s media responses and remain proactive in media relations and campaigns; you may also be in the position to serve as a corporate media contact for certain news releases and incoming inquiries


Working with management to implement and maintain internal communications programs designed to contribute to WM’s employee engagement campaigns, you may coordinate and assist in the administration and planning of large company events, to support a motivated workforce.


There will be a level of responsibility for a portion of the overall Communications budget and the effective administration of the assigned budget.

What It Takes
You will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism or Public Relations & 5 years relevant work experience in a marketing, communications or public relations environment.


No Bachelors? No problem! In that case you will need a High School Diploma/GED and 9 years relevant work experience in a marketing, communications or public relations environment.

You will have the ability to work independently on projects from conception to completion and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities. It will be important to utilize your strong written and verbal communication skills, administrative and organization skills and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. 


You possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external clients, vendors, customers and the public. You are organizational and political savvy and have a strong influence ability


Experience editing and translating documentation from English to French will be key. This role will require strong attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to exercise high standards for quality, while meeting tight deadlines
