Job Purpose and Scope:

The Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Monitoring Officer (“Portfolio Monitoring Officer”) assesses the quality of loan relationships and the quality of internal routines and controls designed to identify, measure, monitor and control credit risk.  Using a combination of proprietary loan review processes and self-developed commercial real estate lending expertise, the Portfolio Monitoring Officer primarily reviews loans and independently determines the adequacy of credit quality and the strength of underwriting and asset management practices.  The Portfolio Monitoring Officer reports directly to the Portfolio Monitoring Manager. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Reviews large and complex commercial real estate loans to assess credit quality and the accuracy of assigned risk ratings.

  2. Reviews loan and complex commercial real estate loans to evaluate the strength of underwriting and asset management practices. 

  3. Assesses business line adherence to credit policy and procedures and regulatory guidelines, laws, and regulations.

  4. Discusses review findings with loan originators, underwriters, asset managers and other business line personnel.

  5. Writes reports that effectively communicate credit review findings and conclusions. 

  6. Collaborates with business line management to ensure key risk issues are identified and action plans to resolve or reduce undue risk are effectively designed and implemented. 

  7. Monitors CRE capital and property market conditions and trends.

  8. Ensures work papers and electronic records are comprehensive, complete and supportive of reportable and non-reportable findings and conclusions.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of federal banking regulations, commercial real estate lending underwriting and asset management practices, procedures, and techniques.

  2. Knowledge of loan documentation, credit and financial statement analysis.

  3. Practical exposure to basic principles of auditing.

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word proficiently; and acquire other computer skills as needed
  3. Ability to work without close supervision

 

Position Requirements 

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

  2. A minimum of three (3) years of credit review or credit audit work experience at a super-community, regional or large commercial bank.

  3. A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in commercial real estate lending and/or commercial lending.

  4. Assistant or associate examiner work experience with a federal banking regulatory agency preferred.

  5. Formal commercial credit training from a super-community, regional bank, or money-center bank preferred.

  6. Prior commercial real estate underwriter, asset manager, or credit officer work experience preferred.

  7. Practical exposure to basic principles of auditing preferred.

  8. Current BAI Loan Review Certification and RMA Credit Risk Certification preferred.
