Job Description

An Account Executive is an experienced professional with strong technical insurance and relationship skills. Works to profitably manage all aspects of KIB (Key Insurance and Benefit Services) relationship for clients generating $20,000 or greater in annual commissions/fees. Works in conjunction with account managers, producers and support staff to efficiently handle the technical needs of clients. Recommends risk management solutions, including cross-sell opportunities. Manages the KIB “Customer Experience” service initiative with focus on account retention and pursuing growth opportunities within the existing book of business. Also assists in the preparation of persuasive proposals and presentations for new programs or other products.


  • Builds, expands and solidifies relationships with existing clients and leads appropriate resources to address the client’s risk/capital management needs
  • Develops a thorough understanding of clients’ business strategic priorities, and appetite for risk
  • Identifies client needs and develops custom solutions
  • Establishes credibility (knowledge/trust) both externally as well as internally
  • Demonstrates technical competency and creates innovative solutions
  • Communicates and captures the value that KIB brings to client
  • Secures existing business and drives the sale of additional service and coverages
  • Visits clients independently and leads Client discussions
  • Develops and analyzes program and coverage options across lines of business. Presents new business or renewal proposals to client, in conjunction with team members when needed
  • Prepares and negotiates fees ensuring account profitability in a value based approach for the scope of service and costs associated with the client service agreement
  • Gathers new business or renewal information to complete applications and related documentation for submission to appropriate insurance markets
  • Prepares account summaries, as required
  • Coordinates loss analysis and loss control activities in conjunction with claims and loss control specialists
  • Delivers documents to insured’s as needed
  • Participates in seminars and classes for skill and knowledge development. Maintains appropriate state licensing
  • Keeps producers fully informed of all important activities on their accounts
  • Services commercial lines accounts according to the KIB “Customer Experience” format
  • Manages stewardship/service agreements ensuring services are provided and deadlines are met
  • Assumes other job responsibilities as assigned by producer or department manager
  • Must adhere to pertinent laws, regulations, KeyBank’s Compliance Policy and external compliance requirements.


  • 7+ years experience working with commercial clients primarily with commission/fee income of $20,000 or greater
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Professional designation is a plus
  • Property & Casualty license is required within six months of hire date.
  • Excellent negotiation, persuasion and sales skills
  • Excellent relationship and technical skills
  • Strong knowledge of computer systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Good listening skills and attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of insurance markets, products coverages, including loss-sensitive programs and industry operations
  • Goal oriented
  • Ability to coach/mentor team members
  • Develops strong relationships with underwriters and carrier personnel
