GENERAL SUMMARY:
Systematically reviews medical coding for all patient types to determine that the coding for all diagnosis and procedures, especially those in which reimbursement is DRG dependent, are submitted in a timely and accurate manner. Routinely researches, clarifies and resolves coding problems
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors' Degree in related field, 5 years' experience in an acute care hospital setting, 5 years coding experience, working knowledge of Microsoft office applications, working knowledge of clinical database/coding software and applications.
Coding Certification
American Health Information Management Association
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Masters' degree in healthcare field, 5 years supervisory experience in an acute care hospital setting, 10 years coding experience, Expert Knowledge of Microsoft office applications, Expert Knowledge of clinical database/coding software and applications
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES:
Knowledgeable of federal, state and local regulations for coding. Adept at public speaking and facilitating groups/committees/teams.
Strong concentration skills.
Efficiency in processing information either written or verbal.
Ability to collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions and implement action as appropriate.
Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency or critical situations.
Ability to perform a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of varied nature without loss of efficiency or effectiveness.
Ability to exchange information with others clearly and concisely to present ideas, facts and clinical information.
Ability to maintain relationships that facilitate task accomplishment, to cooperate and resolve conflicts, to recognize needs and be sensitive to others.
Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
