Tetra Tech's Center for Coastal Services is currently seeking an experienced Coastal Engineer. The successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of and interest in coastal resiliency. The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative skillsets to support domestic and international coastal/waterfront projects, including beach nourishment, coastal storm impact analyses, coastal structures, and marinas/harbors. The candidate should have strong coastal engineering technical skills in coastal and hydraulic processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader for the planning and design of coastal infrastructure and resiliency tasks.
  • Prepares plans, designs, calculations and cost estimates under the supervision of experienced engineers.
  • Prepare standard contract documents, such as technical specifications, engineering reports, regulatory applications and other technical documents.
  • Solve engineering problems and challenges in a multi-office, distributed work environment.
  • Conduct field work including site inspections, surveys and construction observations.
  • Able to develop technical scopes and fees according to client requirements.


Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of professional experience in coastal/waterfront engineering.
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Coastal or Ocean Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer License (PE) is strongly desired OR eligibility to obtain a license within 12 months is preferred.
  • Experience with planning and design of coastal infrastructure.
  • Experience with coastal flooding hazard assessments and tools.
  • Design experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with public and private client management and previous project management experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of coastal numerical modeling software preferred, especially in relation to coastal modeling and resiliency such as storm surge, oceanographic, and/or tidal hydraulics modeling, wave generation and propagation modeling, and/or coastal sediment transport and morphology models.
