The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will contribute to the technical engineering, design, and architecture of private and public cloud environments to run Synchrony workloads securely and with a high level of resiliency and availability. The individual will contribute through an Agile team that works to design, build, and support compute, storage, and networks in both our private and public cloud environment.
The Cloud Engineer will have a wide range of engagement on projects and initiatives that may include:
Private & Public Cloud integration to enable Synchrony’s cloud presence and capabilities
Emerging technologies to support key business initiatives
Automation and improvement of existing technology infrastructure and platforms
Enterprise Data Lake to support Enterprise Customer Engagement initiative
The ideal candidate will have strong cloud infrastructure experience with internal customer-facing interactions with key stakeholders and success leading deep technical architecture discussions with senior customer executives, Enterprise Architects, IT Management and Developers.
Apply technical knowledge and customer insights to create a modernization roadmap. Architect solutions to meet business and IT needs, ensuring technical viability of new projects and successful deployments, while orchestrating key resources and infusing key Infrastructure technologies
Contribute to engineering effort for virtual network and compute infrastructure across multiple platforms including private and public cloud environments.
Contribute to developing automation and configuration of management platforms.
Share insights and best practices and connect with Engineering teams to remove key blockers.
Coordinate integration, deployment, and testing of various virtualization technologies both on premise and in the public cloud.
Collaborate across a wide audience of stakeholders regarding business objectives, priorities, and impact of proposed changes.
Responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining automation tools to reduce time and complexity of tasks related to compute, storage, and networking.
Collaborate with various groups and individuals to troubleshoot and resolve escalated production issues
Support the standing standards policies and procedures of the Engineering team
Assist with developing junior to mid-level engineers with mentorship and career coaching
Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
Qualifications / Requirements:
7+ years of success in complex deployment projects, architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of highly distributed applications
5+ years of enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, architecture designs, migrations, and technology management
5+ years of deep domain expertise of cloud infrastructure solutions (i.e. Windows and Linux IaaS, Kubernetes, Security, Management, Storage, Networking, and Infra as a code technologies)
Experience with scalable architectures using Azure App Service, API management, serverless technologies, container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry etc.), API management, microservice frameworks etc.
Software development practices like DevOps and CI/CD tool chains (i.e. Jenkins, Spinnaker, Azure DevOps, GitHub)
Competitive Landscape. Knowledge of cloud platforms
Understanding of partner ecosystems and the ability to leverage partner solutions to solve customer needs
Expert knowledge of virtual network technologies and associated automation and configuration management tools such as ACI, UCS Director, NSX-V/NSX-T, HCX, AVI Networks, Palo Alto, etc.
Familiar with public cloud compute network architectures such as AWS VPCs, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, Elastic Load Balancing, etc.
Scripting Proficiency in PowerShell, Ruby, Python, Perl or other
Experience with production systems and dealing with production issues
Competence in using scripting + programming languages to automate frequently executed activities
Experience working on or leading teams performing systems automation and integration (ideally leveraging an agile methodology)
Relationship Building. Proven track record of building deep technical relationships with senior IT executives in large or highly strategic accounts. Experience in managing various stakeholder relationships to get consensus on solution/projects. required
Problem Solving. Ability to solve customer problems through cloud technologies required
Collaboration and Communication. Acknowledged for driving decisions collaboratively, resolving conflicts and ensuring follow through with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to orchestrate, lead, and influence virtual teams, ensuring successful implementation of customer projects.
Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences (Senior Executives, IT management, Application administrators )

You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. The salary range for this position is 70,000.00 - 150,000.00 USD Annual
Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.
