POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for conducting clinical data science and related research and analysis with the ability to work independently or lead efforts as assigned. Responsibilities include performing scientific research and statistical analyses, applying machine learning methods and developing advanced tools and models through scientific and technical approaches to discover insights and provide platforms for improving event-free survival for all patients. This position can be located in Minneapolis, MN or remotely anywhere in the continental U.S. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Stay abreast of ongoing developments in data science, bioinformatics, statistical methods, immunology, and cellular therapy, including transplant research. Identify and propose opportunities for research, services, products, and applications that impact event-free survival for all patients. Provide scientific, technical, and statistical leadership for programs and design, execution, and completion of research projects. Work on scientific and technical projects as assigned to research, develop, test, and produce analysis results, models, tools, and services. Formulate and meet development schedules, milestones, and target completion dates for each assigned project. Provide management with regular status on tasks and projects and identify and report problem areas early. Work creatively and collaboratively to anticipate and resolve issues and provide solutions and scientific and technical leadership as needed. Provide orientation and training to department new hires and ensure smooth onboarding transition. Mentor team members and work with internal and external collaborators toward common goals. Document code, protocols, and pipelines, and ensure that models and processes can be accessed, utilized, and replicated by team members. Provide management with reports, visualization, and interpretation of research and analysis results; create and be regularly prepared to deliver presentations. Regularly publish results of research projects. Attend and present findings at conferences and scientific meetings as opportunities arise. Represent team objectives on internal and external committees and at conferences as assigned. Lead technical initiatives for high impact research or translating research into practice across multi-disciplinary teams. Demonstrate and maintain ethical standards of patient and donor confidentiality. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Data science, bioinformatics, machine learning, statistical modeling techniques and applications for high volume and complex datasets, clinical data and associations. Best coding practices. Ability to: Exemplify our Be The Match Standards. Demonstrate advanced coding and documentation skills and in-depth knowledge for handling of complex datasets. Code in one or more of R, Python, and Java and learn or utilize others as needed. Utilize statistical software platforms, work with SQL and NoSQL databases (Mongo, Neo4j) and DevOps tools and environments (Unix, cloud computing, Docker). Perform quality assurance/validation, innovate in application of methodologies, and troubleshoot and reproduce analyses. Take the initiative to learn and teach new skills as needed. Show strong organizational and creative problem-solving skills to continually improve upon results and practices. Demonstrate clear, concise, and effective written and oral communication skills. Exhibit outstanding individual, interpersonal, and cohesive team-building behaviors including trust, healthy conflict, commitment, accountability, and focus on results. Education and/or Experience: PhD in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science, Digital Health or related technical field that required extensive scientific, computational, and statistical analysis as part of the degree program. Three years of experience delivering science and technology research, machine learning models, and applications. Publication track record appropriate to level of experience. Proven record and recognition of scientific and technical leadership. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Additional qualifications that may make a person even more effective in the role, but are not required for consideration) Demonstrated ability to translate research into practical applications and tools for operational use. Knowledge of HLA and immunogenetics. Experience in cellular therapy and transplantation research.
