As part of the Scripps Health pharmacy team, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide a broad range of clinical services at our sites and work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health care team members to deliver high-quality, efficient services to patients and staff. The Clinical Pharmacist I will work in the main pharmacy at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. To be successful, the Clinical Pharmacist will be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and will be knowledgeable with inpatient care. The Clinical Pharmacist reviews and evaluates individual drug orders for appropriateness, safety, and cost. Documents the care provided to patients. Supervises the drug distribution operation: responsible for assuring safe and effective alternatives as appropriate. Routinely communicates with physicians, nurses and patients regarding drug therapy. Contributes to the accomplishment of initiatives to improve the cost-effectiveness of drug therapy. Demonstrates ability to provide age-specific patient care as established for area and job title. Demonstrates ability to perform competencies and perform activities as outlined in Pharmacist Authorities policy. Primarily operation focused centrally based; participates in direct patient care as clinical competencies are approved and on approved shifts.

This is a casual/per diem position with varied shifts (10 hour shifts), at least two weekends a month.

Job Requirements


  • BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree
  • California Pharmacist License
  • AHA BLS for the health care provider
  • ACLS certifications required prior to being trained to respond to codes. (can be obained after hire)


  • PGY1 residency or equivalent hospital patient care experience
  • Hospital pharmacy practice and Clinical pharmacy practice (inpatient or ambulatory) experience
