Department Description

The UCSF Obstetrics/Gynecology Health Center is recognized internationally for its expertise in providing comprehensive, specialized care for women's health issues. In fact, we are the only nationally designated Center of Excellence in Women's Health in Northern California. We are also recognized as one of the top hospitals in the nation for gynecological care.

Job Summary

The Center for Reproductive Health Manager will oversee the delivery of interdisciplinary clinical / nursing, dental and ambulatory care, facilitating the flow of patient care activities and supervision, coordination, and management of the clinical staff. May also manage practice or center management operations.

Center for Reproductive Health includes reproductive endocrinologists and nurse practitioners with a special interest and expertise in caring for women. The practice provides comprehensive reproductive care with an emphasis on infertility.   CRH has practices in two locations: 499 Illinois Street at Mission Bay and 2356 Sutter Street at Mt. Zion.  

  • Manages the patient care delivery system to assure quality care, patient safety, standard work and compliance with internal policy, external regulations and accepted practices across the continuum of care. Allocates environmental, technical and staffing resources. May also manage the fiscal and administrative operations.10%
  • Develops staff in collaborative decision making and shared governance to ensure a shared voice in clinical care practice, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved clinical and patientcare outcomes.10%
  • Discipline and staff development. Develops a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and the timely achievement of objectives. Works with clinical educators and leadership to evaluate core competencies in nursing and other clinical care for unit.10%
  • Works collaboratively with Labor Relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level. Facilitates and oversees resolution of human resources, labor relations, employee safety and risk management issues.10%
  • Keeps abreast of and Implements new or changing patient care standards of practice, scope of practice, competency development and assessment, policies and procedures and new programs. Collaborates with physicians and develops proposals for improvements to clinic services, policies or procedures. 10%
  • Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of health care clinicians in efforts to develop healthcare policies, practice standards and improve services. 10%
  • Determines staffing needs and plans. Monitors performance of clinic or center services. Coordinates activities with other clinics, centers, units and / or departments in regard to patient care. 10%
  • Work in partnership with CRH Leadership to identify improved practice operations through the oversight and participation in projects. 10%
  • Represents assigned clinics or centers on task forces or committees. Participates to develop new programs, review technology improvements, design quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, etc. 5%
  • Manages patient care in a cost effective manner, consistent with the financial goals of the organization. Plans and is accountable for the annual operative and capital budget for areas of responsibility.5%
  • Collaborates and provides input, on marketing, facilities and fiscal planning. Drafts business plans to introduce quality improvements to clinical service delivery in accordance with best practices. 5%
  • Monitors expenditures and the annual budgets for patient care services and / or clinic operations. 5%

Required Qualifications

  • Experience as a Registered Nurse in acute or ambulatory setting
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology; broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making
  • Strong leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines
  • Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives
  • Knowledge of relevant hefalthcare information technology (APEX)and patient care workflows and processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments
  • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently
  • Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous nurse supervisory/management experience
  • Fertility experience
  • Master's degree
  • LEAN leader training 


  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California

Work Environment

  • Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture.
  • Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility. 
  • Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.
  • Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.  
  • Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.
