DescriptionMountain View Hospital is looking for a Clinical Laboratory Informatics Specialist-Lead to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY: Informatics is dedicated to delivering high quality patient care through efficient management of data and technical systems. The Laboratory Clinical Informatics Specialist Lead is responsible for the assessment, planning, training, implementation, evaluation and optimization of laboratory informatics projects. She/he serves as the primary interface between laboratory, Point of Care Services, and Information Technology Services to ensure multi- and inter-disciplinary project coordination. She/he also participates in communications and project planning regarding system implementation and integration with other MVH initiatives. She/he is knowledgeable about the laboratory process and laboratory practice, relevant regulatory mandates, and principles of quality/safety improvement. The laboratory informatics projects are planned and implemented using evidence-based practices for planning, understanding, guiding and delivering responsible patient care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Ensures the completion and effectiveness of assessing, planning, implementation, evaluation and optimization of laboratory informatics projects.
a. Directs projects for Lab IT specialists.
b. Collaborates with clinical department directors, nurse managers, and clinical experts, physicians and other key staff in overall project evaluation. Identifies key benchmarks for use in evaluation.
c. Initiates and directs planning related to project development including the identification of project objectives, expected outcomes, resource requirements and evaluation strategies.
d. Contributes to the design and conduct of evidence-based practice and quality improvement activities.
2. Coordinates system parameters and project designs with the Laboratory and POC manager, project teams, and/or vendors.
3. Provides program management for laboratory informatics projects including but not limited to:
a. Assesses laboratory department technology needs.
i. Provides ongoing end user education.
ii. Provides support to laboratory staff for relevant technologies through regular clinical rounds.
iii. Provides support for daily system operations for relevant technologies.
iv. Role models leadership behaviors that demonstrate specific professional values and commitment to advanced practice.
4. Facilitates a safe practice environment for interdisciplinary team members' use of technology.
a. Establishes collaborative relationships with other members of the health care team for effective interdisciplinary care.
b. Evaluates current interventions and emerging technologies to ensure implementation of strategies that promote viable data cost and quality outcomes.
c. Evaluates necessary changes in laboratory clinical practice and workflow as related to technology including new functionality and functional applications.
d. Analyzes processes and implements necessary process improvements related to technology inventory and lifespan; obtains and analyzes data related to the quantity of devices needed to meet clinical demands.
e. Evaluates practice setting suitability for use of technology with the goal of ultimately achieving one standard of care.
f. Evaluates outcomes of technology use including but not limited to feedback from users and impact on improved patient safety.
5. Promotes inquiry by stimulating and encouraging staff members to question and investigate best practices with respect to the impact of technology within clinical practice and workflows.
6. Improve and innovate the use of technology within clinical practice and workflows.
7. Manages resources effectively to achieve identified project objectives and expected outcomes.
8. Participates in the production and distribution of communications related to technology.
9. Contributes to the development of Laboratory Informatics practice and the education of the application of clinical technology.

QualificationsEducation/Certification: BS in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science with MLS/MT/CLS national certification or equivalent. Current BLS Certification. Valid driver's license. New graduates must be registry eligible & sit for the board of certification exam within 6 months of hire. Must obtain a national certification within 1 year of hire.
Experience: 1-2 years preferred, including a practical training program. Previous experience in microbiology and blood banking is desirable. : 1 year minimum clinical experience. Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
Equipment/Technology: Working knowledge of EHR systems, computer knowledge (Word and Excel) and skills in lab information systems
Language/Communication: Ability to read and communicate (oral and written) effectively in English. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely.
