Job DescriptionPosition Description CHS is seeking highly trained physicians to provide primary care in the NYC jail system, as well as participate in system-wide education, quality improvement, and population health initiatives.
Incarceration can be a crucial point of contact with many underserved populations and CHS aspires to the highest standards of care, with the goal of meeting or exceeding what is available in the community. CHS care includes comprehensive history and physicals on admission, robust screening efforts (i.e., HIV, hepatitis C, STDs, TB), and the management of chronic and acute illness. Committed to continuously improving the delivery of care within the security setting, CHS utilizes a system-wide electronic health record to promote patient safety and population health. CHS seeks to promote an academic practice environment with ample opportunities for continuing education, clear pathways for career growth, and engagement of front-line staff in the ongoing process of improving clinical care.
Preferred skills:
- Registration to practice medicine in New York State
- A background in social medicine, social determinants of health, criminal justice, etc.
- Recent publications in peer review journals and/or presentations at academic conferences OR completion of a Master's in Public Health or chief residency OR equivalent leadership or academic work.
- Training in an academic medical center, with an interest in teaching and clinical and/or epidemiologic research.
Detailed Tasks - Provide primary care to patients in jail-based clinics, including:
- Intake evaluation and treatment
- Follow-up on chronic disease
- Provide emergency care with the support of emergency medicine physicians
- Physicians work as part of a care delivery team with a strong physician assistant, nursing, mental health, and administrative support staff.
Minimum Qualifications1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Health Administration, Public Administration or approved related program; and,
2. Six years of full-time, paid experience of progressively responsible level in hospital administration with particular emphasis on development and evaluation of health care delivery services; or,
3. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Hospital or Health Administration, Health Care Planning, Public Health, Administrative Medicine, Business Administration, Public Administration or approved related program; and,
4. Five years of full-time, paid experience as indicated in (2); or,
5. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
