Role Description is looking for a self-motivated person to join its IT Department as a Client Engineer to drive operational excellence for our Windows client environment. The candidate will need experience administering large client endpoint environments(10k+) including: endpoint management, maintaining security and patch levels, policy management, software packaging, utility and install scripting, and Tier 3 type escalations. As a Senior member of the Client Operations team, this individual will be expected to provide guidance to other team members, consolidate feedback for our engineering partners and business stakeholders, handle escalations, and push for standardization in our day to day operations for the Windows environment.


We have a moderately sized Windows install base of about 10,000 machines. You will be a senior member focused on maturing our day to day operations for the Windows environment.

You should be extremely familiar and experienced with traditional Windows management methodologies including imaging with MDT & WDS, Group Policy, software management, registry modification, and driver installation.

You should also have experience or at least strong familiarity with more modern Windows OS management including MDM methodologies, direct to user provisioning, BYOD, etc.

We use BigFix for patch management and other ad-hoc actions. Experience using BigFix is strongly preferred, but familiarity with similar in class tools is acceptable.

Salesforce values trust and security highly and will expect you to partner with security and vulnerability management partners to ensure our practices and policies keep Salesforce safe while balancing usability for our users.

Documentation is a critical component of how we run our business as well and we'll expect you to document your work as well as consume and validate the documentation of your team.


You are going to have to interact with a lot of people with differing levels of technical acumen as well as differing specialties and technical requirements. Some users may be remote or in vastly different time zones. You should be comfortable adjusting your communication and negotiation strategies to be appropriate for the audience in front of you. Sometimes that will be a provisioning technician who can't get a machine to finish provisioning successfully, but it could also mean a manager or director is asking for a higher level understanding of an active incident to pass on to our IT leadership.

On our Windows team, you'll be using HCL BigFix(formerly IBM BigFix), Group Policies, Active Directory, and PowerShell on a regular basis to enact change. You should be comfortable to experience in these areas as you'll be using them daily.

We expect an expert level of familiarity with Windows OS fundamentals. You should be familiar with how Windows works and how to teach others including:

• Operating System(OS) usage: system file structures & navigation, GUI customization and settings and native troubleshooting tools

• OS Architecture: how packages and patches are applied, user management, security toggles, secret management, etc.

• Networking: wireless, DNS, DHCP, VPN, certificate management

• Enterprise compliance requirements: Anti-virus tools, anti-malware, user permissions, vulnerability detection.

As a senior member of the Client Operations team, we expect you to have moderate to high level scripting experience, preferably with a focus on continuous integration/continuous deployment(CI/CD) methodologies as well as idempotent state enforcement practices.

We keep our systems modern and running the latest operating systems. We're standardized on Windows 10 and support historical bi-annual releases. Given the varied needs of a company like ours and the value the experience brings, we expect you to have some experience with some past operating systems as well(Earlier Win 10, Win 8.1, or Win7).

Our employees use a wide array of software tools and it's critical that we not only support that software with patches and updates, but configure it to be useful and compliant with company policies. We expect you to be familiar with deploying and configuring software like the following (not an authoritative list):

• Internet Browsers (e.g.: Chrome, Edge, and Firefox)

• Productivity Software (e.g.: Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, etc.)

• Creative Software (e.g.: Photoshop, Premier, etc.)

• Development tools (e.g.: Visual Studio, Git, Java IDEs, etc.)
