Position Summary:

AXIS Insurance is a world leader in specialty lines insurance, including professional liability within the US market. We are seeking a talented and dynamic claims professional to join our Professional Lines Claims Team as a Claims Specialist. This Claims Specialist position is focused on handling claims under Public Company Directors and Officers policies, Financial Institutions E&O policies and Private Equity policies. In this position, you will be handling a portfolio of claims involving some of the largest and most high profile exposures in the insurance industry.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Handle a portfolio of primary and excess claims

• Analyze insurance coverage issues and draft coverage position letters

• Investigate liability and damages issues in connection with claims made against our insureds and maintain appropriate documentation

• Evaluate a full diary of pending matters in connection with the posting and maintaining of accurate reserves

• Supervise outside counsel in the defense of our insureds in an effort to effectively resolve claims

• Maintain and develop relationships with insureds, brokers and outside counsel

• Collaborate with and provide support and information to management and underwriters in connection with their evaluation of risk on particular accounts and trends in the industry

• Negotiate claim resolutions through mediation and settlement conferences

Required Education, Experience and Attributes:

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required

• 2+ years' experience at either a law firm or an insurance company

• Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills

Other desires skills and characteristics:

• Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment

• Prior exposure to Federal Securities Class Actions, Derivative Litigation and SEC-related matters

• Team player who is flexible, organized, efficient and timely

• Some travel required within the US for mediations and meetings

• Ability to work within Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
