Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, oversight and implementation of core ERM tools including risk identification, assessment of risk on the operations and mission, prioritization, development and implementation of response to mitigation plans, monitoring, reporting templates and communications tools. 
  • Lead the annual and on-going assessment of the ERM framework working directly with risk owners to complete risk analysis and develop risk documentation and reporting mechanisms. Act as an advisor and partner to department heads.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of strong consultative and collaborative relationships across all levels of the organization, especially with other risk assurance professionals; maintain confidentiality and trust-worthy work relationships with management.
  • Lead projects to develop and execute risk optimization strategies for key strategic initiatives. Conduct custom strategic risk and opportunity assessments; maintain an ongoing awareness of emerging external and internal risks and opportunities; consult with subject matter experts as needed; report on those risks and/or opportunities; assist responsible officials to assess and respond to emerging risks. Identify and address gaps in the organization, recommend solutions, develop polices and develop standard reporting mechanisms.
  • Staff, chair, or serve on Authority committees as requested.  Report to the Fiscal Management and Control Board as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and employees.
  • Adhere to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the MBTA including the EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation policies.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Ten (10) years of experience with increasing leadership positions overseeing risk management in complex organizations (e.g., financial, international, publicly traded, governmental agency and/or highly-regulated).
  • Strong broad-based knowledge of ERM, enterprise risk management issues and operational risk
  • Demonstrated Strong teamwork, relationship management experience and the ability to collaborate with senior leaders across an organization.
  • Strong analytical, project management and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and excellent communication essential, including an ability to develop and deliver effective risk assessment reports and presentations.
  • Adaptability to change and ability to work on short deadlines.
  • Able to listen and interpret risk concerns of internal customers at all levels, and verify for accuracy.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to pass: background screenings, and the MBTA's medical requirements, including a drug and alcohol screening.
  • Have a satisfactory work record including overall employment, job performance, discipline and safety records. PREFERENCES INCLUDE:

  • Masters of Business Administration, Masters of Public Administration or related field from an accredited institution.
