The Project Chief’s Office is the key focal point with engineering, program management, and customer support for all technical and schedule issues. This position reports to Chief Project Engineer, Airframe Products and the main responsibility is to lead integrated product development teams in developing and certifying Vehicle Management Computer ‘VMC’. In this highly visible role the candidate will have the opportunity to work not only with Collins engineering but also coordinate with Collin Program Office and the customer.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to integrated product development teams through Preliminary Design, Detail Design, and Verification and Validation in support of Flight controls programs.
  • Manage overall program milestones through tracking IPT’s to commitment and providing overall program execution communication.
  • Maintain overall program technical risk assessment including the identification of program level technical risk mitigation plans and establishing and tracking tasks to reduce risk.
  • Coordinate overall program technical communications internally and externally between the engineering teams, the customer, and with Collins Senior Leadership.
  • Be the engineering focal point on VMC for insuring tasks are appropriately planned, baseline and tracked via EVMS. Ensure all IPTs are tracking to their plans.
  • Ensure all technical scope changes are properly coordinated with the Program Office and full alignment is gained prior to execution of unplanned work.
  • Communicate effectively (verbally and written) to program team, management, and customer representatives.
  • Stand in and represent the Chief Project Engineering Office when needed.
  • Coordinate with functional managers to ensure proper resource plans are in place.
  • Utilize the Standard Work tool to drive the IPT teams through the proper technical design and program reviews.
  • Travel to customers and suppliers as needed.
  • Oversee test and engineering specifications including certification plans and reports.
  • Oversee work in the lab such as development and certification hardware testing.
  • Lead RRCA investigations during the design phase to ensure that robust fixes are put in place.
  • Strategic planning.
  • Wiling to travel up to 10% of the time.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with Program/Project Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, software, or aerospace engineering from an accredited institution
  • Master’s degree and 5 years of engineering or project/program management experience.
  • Aerospace industry experience.
  • Certification experience.
  • PMP certification.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification.
