General Function (Description):

Clark Atlanta University, one of the largest members among the nation's 37-member UNCF institutions, is seeking a senior level executive to serve as Chief of Staff to the President. Clark Atlanta is  centrally located in Atlanta and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to grant the bachelor's, master's, specialists and doctoral degrees.

The Chief of Staff position reports directly to the President and is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. The successful candidate will have 15-20 years of broad business experience at the senior management or C-suite level and/or as a senior Administrator within higher education. This individual must possess a high degree of business acumen and diplomacy to manage the central coordination of activities and communication regarding strategic and operational issues that flow from the Office of the President. Candidate should have notable experience working with Boards, the political community, and the public at large to promote and advance the agenda of the organization to reach agreed upon outcomes. Work history must demonstrate strong project management experience with an aptitude for managing complex detail and reconciling opposing views of various stakeholder groups.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

* Provide principal management support to the President in communicating his vision and key messages regarding strategic priorities

* Represent the President in meetings concerning organizational planning

* Represent or act as spokesperson for the President with designated business/community leaders, elected governmental officials, university leaders, alumni and the general public

* Provide management oversight for the day-to-day operation of the Office of the President, to include managing the flow of communication, approving routine expenditures and managing the budget

* Monitor progress against strategic goals on behalf of the President

* Assist with the monitoring and coordination of university-wide projects

* Serve on various institutional committees as appointed by the President

* Develop speeches, talking points, presentations, reports, proposals and correspondence on behalf of the President

* Respond to inquiries and manage the flow of confidential information regarding personnel matters, grievances and other sensitive correspondence

* Facilitate, in concert with the President, communication and follow-up with Board of Trustees

* Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Hiring Standards:


Bachelor required; Master's preferred

Years of Experience

15-20 years of business and/or university administration experience * combination a plus

Years of Management/Supervisor Experience

5-10 years supervisory experience
