All About You
Physician shall have the following responsibilities:
a. Understand and exemplify the philosophy, mission and values of the SSM Health System and its sponsoring organization the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.
b. Provide leadership that ensures and supports an environment consistent with the overall System commitment to continuous quality improvement and the Baldridge business model.
c. Revisit and rationalize the medical staff structure at CG-SL in order to minimize duplication, enhance collaboration, promote information sharing, and promote a more contemporary practice of medicine.
d. Provide leadership and guidance in the consideration, evaluation, selection and implementation of new technology for CG-SL. Partner with administrators and clinicians in using EPIC as an opportunity to build and enhance the continuum of care across the outpatient and inpatient arenas to promote increased collaboration, enhanced information sharing, and a more comprehensive and outcomes driven approach to patient care delivery.
e. Provide leadership in the creation of physician alignment and communication strategies that recognize and continually communicate the importance of partnering with physicians. Promote an organization-wide environment in which physicians will find clinical and strategic value in aligning with CG-SL. Actively acknowledge and respond to the needs and concerns of CG-SL’s diverse and highly credentialed medical staff.
f. Provide leadership and guidance to ensure appropriate medical staff involvement in CG-SL policy development, strategic planning and programmatic and clinical initiatives. In this regard, identify and promote ongoing activities designed to increase collaboration between CG-SL and its physician partners.
g. Provide leadership, guidance and ongoing participation in CG-SL’s quality improvement processes, to include defining outcomes management, benchmarking and identifying best practices. Create/promote common standards of behavior and performance, accompanied by the expectation of high quality care and efficient service delivery throughout the organization.
h. Play a leadership role in improving systems for monitoring and tracking care; ensure the appropriate use of care management processes through which clinical value to the community and payors can be demonstrated. In this regard, supervise the collection, reporting, analysis and improvement of all core quality indicators as identified by CG-SL and CMS.
i. Participate, as appropriate, in the development, implementation and monitoring of part time, specialty specific, clinical/medical director contracts.
j. Provide leadership and guidance in developing ongoing educational programs in the areas of quality and patient safety including changing trends in health care delivery, benchmarking and outcomes management, patient safety and clinical excellence, technology and innovation, compliance and risk management.
k. Work closely with senior management in the expansion of relationships with referring physicians and in the enhancement of programs designed to address physician recruitment and retention.
l. Assure the provision of high quality care at CG-SL through the following: 1) ensure the criteria and professional standards related to appointment, reappointment and granting of privileges to the medical staff are established and strictly followed; 2) manage the medical staff components of The Joint Commission and other quality evaluation mechanisms to include monitoring medical staff and hospital by-laws, rules and regulations to assure consistency and appropriateness; 3) in conjunction with medical staff leadership, receive, investigate and address incidents, events and complaints against members of the medical staff, reporting same to the appropriate bodies.
m. Develop and ensure the existence of appropriate systems for identifying evidence-based practice, transfer of knowledge, benchmarking and the development of standards for excellence of care and service. Develop and improve systems for tracking, evaluating and communicating patterns in care delivery.
n. Provide creative leadership in ensuring the delivery of accredited continuing medical education programs in a manner in which physicians want to receive medical education.
o. Participate as an active member of CG-SL’s Administrative Council with responsibility for integrating medical staff into the hospital’s decision-making, planning, budgeting and marketing plans and processes.
p. Provide leadership and guidance in developing and implementing ongoing programs to control costs, while improving the quality of patient care delivery and service excellence.
q. Provide enhanced accessibility and expanded communication vehicles for the medical staff to ensure their input on key issues to include strategic planning, technology selection, leadership and organization, and policy development.
r. Serve as the administrative liaison for the medical staff. Facilitate resolution of physician/hospital and inter-physician conflicts. Communicate with medical staff leaders and appropriate hospital administrators to address and resolve issues and to improve physician and employee satisfaction.
s. Provide leadership and guidance in bringing clinical and administrative leadership together to identify and implement user-friendly solutions to the specific operational challenges confronting CG-SL.
t. Provide leadership in physician-related clinical documentation and improvement efforts.
u. Play a significant role in interfacing CG-SL’s medical staff to drive improvement in supply chain and resource allocation in a manner that is consistent to the organization’s commitment to quality and patient safety.
v. Oversee the proper conduct of all medical staff members privileged at the hospital, in accordance with hospital and medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations.
w. Serve on committees as requested.
x. In a position that relies heavily on credibility, influence, communications skills and information and formal education, play an active role in shaping medical staff opinion with respect to strategic initiatives, clinical excellence, operational challenges, market dynamics and the potential for enhanced relationships between CG-SL and its medical staff.
