Chief Financial Officer

Our client, a private investment firm with a focus in the life science sectors, is seeking to hire a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee their portfolio companies. The CFO will direct the day-to-day financial activities of these companies—under the umbrella of a holding company—and act as a strategic partner with key leadership to appropriately scale the companies for growth. In addition, the CFO will help the firm and its investors evaluate and integrate potential acquisition opportunities and ideally have experience in scaling high growth companies of this type.


  • Provide corporate executives and the Board of Directors with direction and management of the companies’ financial strategy and business planning as well as timely, accurate, and relevant management and financial information
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of management, human capital, information technology, and infrastructure to handle rapid growth and drive efficient operating margins
  • Drive accountability and provide executive coaching to the companies’ functional experts in executing on strategy and annual budget
  • Expand on the existing finance function, including accounting, budgeting, and metrics reporting
  • Establish and maintain audit relationships to ensure 3rd party financial accountability as the companies scale
  • Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of financial and operational management
  • Work in conjunction with the sales team to enhance and establish best practices for optimal sales force performance and tracking, including relevant sales information, customer and pricing trends, and pipeline management
  • Maintain ownership and drive team accountability for HR, Legal, Facilities, and Compliance departments
  • Work closely with the firm’s leadership on all corporate development and strategic partnership-driven activities
  • Manage and develop direct reporting staff, including both existing and new hires
  • Ensure activities meet and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care
  • Ensure compliance of operations with firm policy and government regulations


  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in finance and/or accounting roles
  • Manufacturing expereince required 
  • CPA & MBA strongly preferred
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial-type environment without large corporate infrastructure
  • Venture/private equity backed company experience is advantageous
  • An experienced “in-the-trenches executive” who is willing to immerse himself or herself in the daily aspects of the business
  • Ability to operate within a fast-paced high-growth environment, with an appreciation for the rewards and challenges that accompany this type of environment
  • Strong internal finance skills including, but not limited to, accounting and tax, internal and external controls, budgeting and planning, treasury, financial systems, and management reporting.
  • External experience in mergers and acquisitions and investor relations preferred
  • Proven management and organization skills in a dynamic environment, including an open, action-oriented personality
  • Outstanding internal and external communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to connect with people on financial issues
