The Chief Engineer will report directly to the Launch Program Operations (LPO) Vice President and performs special studies, prepares briefings, and manages various activities across the entire national security, civil, and commercial launch enterprise. Provides leadership and coordination across the LPO Divisions ensuring consistent implementation of LPO technical processes, including development and implementation of agile mission assurance techniques. 



  • Ensure quality and consistency of LPO Enterprise level processes such as mission assurance and risk management across the organization
  • Present strategic technical advice to LPO VP and other senior leadership
  • Perform technical assessments and studies
    • Maintain launch vehicle reliabilitystatistics
    • Perform independent analysis and studies of strategic level launch problems
    • Provide technical leadership for special teams and focus groups
    • Perform mapping of customer needs/desires to Aerospace products/services
  • Provide state of industry assessments
    • Maintain situational awareness of relevant events in space and launch
    • Monitor, evaluate, and identify technologies essential to future of LPO
  • Sponsor specific research projects
  • Participate in govt., academic, professional, and industrial groups
  • Networkwith key people
    • Aerospace, customers, and contractor communities
    • Formal and informal networks



  • BS in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 15 or more years of professional experience  
  • Experience with launch systems engineering across a broad spectrum of technologies to include knowledge of structures, propulsion, avionics, guidance and controls, and mechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of launch systems design and development
  • Direct working experience with launch system programs 
  • Knowledge of Aerospace business, mission assurance, and engineering processes
  • Demonstrated history of effectively building relationships across technical/program functions
  • This role requires a Secret /SCI Clearance or the ability to obtain one. 



  • Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of statistics, reliability, and probability analysis
  • Knowledge of factory, launch site, and range operations
  • Knowledge of USAF acquisition procedures
  • Experience with database development
  • Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral communication and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and/or participate in collaborative efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently
