Job Description
Tesla is seeking a world-class simulation engineer with a strong background in thermal modeling to play a critical role in the development of Tesla's next generation products. By applying engineering fundamentals and using state-of-the-art modeling tools, we help push the boundaries of cell technology and create revolutionary vehicle designs. This role involves collaboration with several cross functional teams and working on all Tesla cell/vehicle programs. You will apply your expertise in problem solving using analytical and numerical approaches to drive design innovation, optimize performance, overcome challenges, and develop new methodologies.

Responsibilities
- Create cell thermal models to solve various engineering problems and design challenges
- Provide guidance and support design and manufacturing teams based on the modeling results
- Perform advanced coupled multi-physics simulations to evaluate and enhance sub-systems and full vehicle performance
- Advance the capabilities of Tesla's cell thermal modeling tools
- Process thermal characterization test data to parameterize and validate cell thermal models
- Develop code to support automated model validation and simulation workflows
- Conduct model-based analysis to the guide cell design process
- Produce concise management summaries and report-outs that meet the needs of management functions
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
- Strong background in numerical methods, especially in optimization and numerical solutions of ODEs and PDEs
- 3+ years of experience in developing physics-based thermal models. Experience developing electrochemical-thermal coupled models for lithium-ion batteries is a plus
- Intermediate skills in at least one common CAE package: ANSYS-FLUENT, Star-CCM+, COMSOL, etc.
- Intermediate skills in at least one common CAD package: SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.
- Strong Programming skills and 3+ years' experience in MATLAB, Simulink, or Python, etc. Preference for experience in developing physics-based 1D system models using any of these packages
- Excellent written and communication skills and a collaborative working style
- Preference for working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Proactive working mindset
- First principles approach to problem solving

- Expected Compensation$84,000 - $204,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
