Job Description

The Lead Account Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating all client service activities for mid and large market clients, including interaction with the carriers, vendors, and internal teams. Maintains a comprehensive understanding of insurance carriers and the products they offer. Develops strong relationships with the client. Understands the complete process of marketing, analyzing alternatives, presenting recommendations to the client, and implementing insurance programs.


  • Responsible for mid to large size client relationships, account retention and developing comprehensive risk management solutions in conjunction with other account team members, as needed
  • Inform and educate clients about policy coverage, changes, exclusions, and insurance coverage needs
  • Maintain a full understanding of the client’s programs, processes, procedures and timing requirements
  • Respond to client needs by producing appropriate paperwork within timeframes outlined in procedures
  • Gather data and coverage information according to timelines set forth in procedures; Create timely renewal strategy
  • Participate in renewals and new line of coverages with appropriate insurance carriers understanding the underwriting requirements for each carrier being approached
  • Prepare and deliver, when appropriate, coverage analysis (proposal) for client presentations
  • Design insurance programs for clients. Meet and present such designs and recommendations to other account team members and/or clients
  • Review policy, endorsement or audit discrepancy forms, proactively order any necessary corrections from carrier and ensure documents are sent to client on a timely basis
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly system functions and frequent ad hoc report requests, resolving most issues independently but escalating issues as needed
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of both electronic and non-electronic data
  • Maintain knowledge of all service offerings to pursue rounding out and cross solve opportunities
  • Keep abreast of both insurance and client industry changes, communicate changes to client and team members
  • Educate client and promote agency resources as appropriate
  • Refer current and prospective clients to appropriate divisions
  • Adhere to pertinent laws, regulations, internal compliance policies and external compliance requirements.


  • Some college education or associatedegree and at least five years of relevant experience or combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of insurance products and usages
  • Must maintain required professional designations and insurance licenses Knowledge of insurance markets, rating procedures, coverages, and industry operations to effectively manage, maintain, and write assigned client and prospect
  • Understanding of special coverages and service needs of assigned clients that require specialized knowledge for contract review, specification review, specialized coverages
  • Ability to utilize math skills to assist in compiling and analyzing various data components and possess a basic understanding of risk analysis
  • Ability to utilize computers and understand functionality. Proficiency in Microsoft product skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Knowledge and ability to perform technical tasks to expedite client service
  • High degree of self-discipline, motivation and ability to work well individually and in a team environment
  • Excellent problem solving, persuasion and negotiation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to multi-task and prioritize action items
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Satisfactory completion of agency testing requirements
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license or have transportation available when needed to attend client and carrier meetings
  • Must be able to work in an office environment
  • Must be able to use a computer with all its components for prolonged periods of time
  • Maintain and commit to a predetermined work schedule
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position
  • Travelrequired within incumbent’s region and occasionally to other regions
  • Travel percentage 10%
