UPS Capital (UPSC) is the financial services branch of the company, established to meet the financial needs of businesses while accelerating money and goods through their supply chains. By combining financial services with all other UPS capabilities, UPS Capital creates a key link in the UPS global commerce synchronization strategy.

UPS Capital is looking for a Business Information & Analysis (BIA) Database Developer Analyst to join UPSC BIA function. He/She will interact with UPS Capital business functions and BIA data analysts to provide data solutions for analytical report and solution development. The BIA Database Developer Analyst works independently on one or more highly complex database environments. He/She assists with providing the definition of logical and physical data elements for promoting data sharing, reusing data objects, and ensuring a coherent data source strategy. The BIA Database Developer Analyst investigates complex information driven problems, provides data solutions, contributes to back-up and recovery procedures, creates reports, and configures and installs database software.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Gathers data requirements to meet users and business needs
  • Performs development of highly complex queries, stored procedures and views using SQL as well as ETL processes
  • Applies data analysis, data modeling, and quality assurance techniques to establish, modify, and maintain data structures
  • Develops and maintains database management scripts and jobs (e.g., backup, recovery, reorganization, etc.) to ensure efficient database operations and business continuity
  • Communicates with requestors to ensure expectations are met and data is usable

Knowledge and Skills

  • Designs information organization, accessibility, and security to create databases based on user needs, using available database management software; devises procedures and schedules to maintain and updatedatabases; installs and updates databases 
  • Creates disaster recovery plans for own environment and helps document procedures; plans and tests recovery procedures in a remote backup environment
  • Identifies key information sources, assesses information quality, and understands and communicates limitations; relates and compares information from different sources; manages large amounts of data and appropriately applies data reduction and exploratory analysis techniques; makes logical assumptions; challenges own findings and documents process and outcomes; audits own analyses and determines their validity
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the strategy, structures, processes and procedures of the enterprise in its relationship with the business and its activities; identifies business representatives affected by information systems with some assistance
  • Recognizes the basic impact of technology on UPS business, services, and processes; identifies technological barriers in achieving desired objectives; maintains appropriate breadth and depth of technological knowledge for current work assignment
  • Must be able to write database commands in MS SQL, creating stored procedures and database functions
  • Familiarity with MS Power BI - Preferred
  • MS SSAS development skills - Preferred
