The Business Unit Safety Director shall report to the Regional Safety Director. This person will assist the PX, PM and Superintendents in adhering to company safety and loss control policies. He/she provides support to the Regional Director of Safety, General Manager, Operations Manager and the business unit staff in an effort to enforce corporate safety and health policies and procedures. In addition to their BU responsibilities, they shall participate in and complete all tasks designated to them by the Regional Safety Director. -- XAssists Regional Director of Safety, OM, GM, and others in BU in adhering to company safety and loss control policies. XBuilds working relationships with 8-10 chairs. XProvides leadership and direction to Business Unit in implementing cultural changes in safety. XPrepare and meet Business Unit established goals as outlined in the Business Unit Safety Action Plan. XResponsible for meeting or exceeding Metric goals established by TCS and Local BU. XImplements proactive programs and TCS initiatives to reduce overall incident rates and claims cost. XBuilds working relationships with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies to promote Turner safety programs. XManages Regulatory exposures and OSHA citations to minimal penalty or zero citations. XDevelops, implements & delivers an effective mentoring system for all new hires, interns and staff members. XParticipates in evaluation process and recommends appropriate staff development needs. XSupervises safety staff and builds bench strength to support BU staffing needs. Provides guidance for safety professionals development. XUtilizes safety management reports that analyze loss control and safety metrics. Report to Regional Director of Safety, GM, OM, and others in the Business Unit on overall metrics vs. goals. XConducts safety audits per company policy utilizing DBO2/Safety Net System. Issues report of any violations or unsafe practices to project team for immediate corrective action. Request report from Project on corrections made. XEvaluates need for training throughout the BU and provide as necessary. XResponsible for compliance with all State, Federal, Local regulations, and owner/contractual requirements. XImplements strategic planning and provides direction to management in implementing cultural change within safety in the Business Unit. XUtilizes multiple specialty safety skills and knowledge to mitigate risk. XAdministers drug screening program (pre-employment, post accident random and cause) that is consistent with Turner or Owners requirements and ensures all projects provide the proper documentation. Monitor and provide reports to TCS as necessary. XInvestigates, reports and reviews claims with Regional Claims Director, local claims coordinator, and other local Business Unit managers. XParticipate in local CSO (Claims Safety and Operations) Task force. XPromotes Turner through high profile involvement in Local/National Organizations. XParticipates in networking, business related events, functions, and activities related to safety and loss prevention with other industry professionals/peers/staff/etc. XParticipates in the development of and maintenance of the Business Unit safety departmental budget. XParticipates in key business issues and opportunities of the company and negotiate business and subcontract agreements related to safety. XCompletes Turner required courses as well as take designated outside courses per year from resource library as deemed necessary by the RSD and OM. XPerforms other duties as required by t

  • A four yeardegree in Safety and Health or equivalent is preferred with at least ten (10) years of safety experience or combination of education / multiple years experience in building construction, with a working knowledge of safety / environmental principles and techniques. Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective actions. Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs. Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing. -- Physical Demands: Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically spends 30-35% of their time in the office and the remainder at construction sites where the employee could potentially be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
