You will support and manage the day to day operations of server and desktop applications including installation, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, upgrade, and decommissioning of old applications and software, while documenting any updates or new systems that come into support.

Responsibilities


  • Support, manage and administer software and application licenses across the organization
  • Install, configure and upgrade various software applications and related products
  • Take ownership and lead troubleshooting efforts for all complex, escalated from level 1 and 2 software/application support incidents/problems/projects, seeing to a timely resolution
  • Close liaison with 1st/2nd Line Support Analysts; Infrastructure and Applications Colleagues regarding software applications and server environment incidents/problems/projects.
  • Ensure fast resolution of any escalated incidents regarding applications hosted on servers, in the cloud or installed on desktops
  • Serve as operations support owner for custom software applications, while working in an agile, and dynamic DevOps environment
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for software applications including deployment and support documentation
  • Build, manage and support servers from an OS perspective including attachment to the SAN and network environment.
  • Perform maintenance checks on servers to ensure software is up and running Work with external suppliers and partners by escalating unresolved, complex issues, and provide license support in contract negotiations as appropriate
  • Evaluate new software features and future upgrade paths.
  • Maintain best software security practices for applications including adhering to and implementing security improvements as directed by global security policies and standards
  • Perform application tuning and performance monitoring.
  • Adhere to standard ITIL processes and best practices.
  • Ensure change management procedures are always followed.
  • Work with infrastructure team to ensure data protection policies and procedures are appropriate and in place to meet business requirements.
  • Plan growth and changes (capacity planning).
  • Successfully work and coordinate with a wide range of both business and cross functional teams to deliver and support small and large IT solutions
  • Work as part of a team and provide Out Of Hours support when required.
  • Assist and collaborate with other IT teams in performing general technical troubleshooting and give consultation where appropriate.
  • Assist in establishing service level agreements with end users.
  • Maintain appropriate records of time spent, actions taken and item status to facilitate management, future problem resolution and to keep users informed of progress.
  • Keep users up to date with progress and to liaise with colleagues and partners in an appropriate manner.
  • Liaise with users regarding escalated issues and to agree appropriate courses of action and priorities.
  • Participate in the development of Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Planning
  • Assist in other activities within the wider Business Systems team as directed.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


  • At least five years' equivalent work experience in a systems and applications support role providing advance troubleshooting skills in a Windows application environment
  • Five years' experience in supporting and maintaining application server technology such as IIS, Tomcat, Glassfish, and ColdFusion
  • Proven capabilities in configuration management of application administration of business technology tools such as ITSM, project management, EHS applications, license server management
  • Five years' experience in security server applications which include apply SSL certs, enabling industry standard security protocols
  • Three years' experience supporting databases in SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of Windows Server 2016 and Azure environments, Windows Server features and roles such as Active Directory, File and Storage Services, Hyper-V, Remote Desktop Services, Web Server IIS
  • Ability to learn and become an expert in industry-specific software
  • An understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Network and Security eg, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and PKI
  • An understanding and knowledge of Server hardware, including SAN and NetApp
  • Backup Technologies, Cloud, on premise, Veritas, Commvault would be beneficial but not essential
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) qualification or equivalent will be beneficial
  • Working knowledge of containerisation technologies (Kubernites, Cloud Foundry, Docker) would be beneficial but not essential
  • Degree or relevant business experience
