The Business Solutions Expert is a senior technical contributor with expertise in specific business processes. The BSE will interface with all levels of the business to understand current business processes and challenge them by identifying alternatives to the business on process re-engineering.

The BSE will work with our IT clients to gather requirements, map business process and facilitate business and IT collaborations. The incumbent will possess full technical knowledge on all phases of systems analysis, while considering the business implications of the application to the current and future business environment. Will also be able to create detailed specifications from which programs will be written.

Some additional responsibilities of the BSE will include:

Formulating systems scope and objectives relative to the Bank’s business plan and industry requirements.

Devising and/or modifying procedures to solve the most complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and the desired needs of the user.

Specific Area of Business Analysis:

The Business Solutions Expert will be an active participant in the Crown Jewels activity within GTS.  This initiative requires a very strong analytical background as well as a broad knowledge of Bank products and services.  Analysis of the Crown Jewels against both technical, operational, and availability metrics will be required

Major Accountabilities:

Understands the business from several points of view and aligns IT&S systems and processes to address critical information and automation requirements.

Responsible for the successful implementation of specific business line solutions for projects, supporting highly complex business applications with complex integration needs across multiple technology disciplines.

Formulates and defines information systems scope, and objectives based on a thorough understanding of the requirements of the specific business line.

Participates in all phases of the IT System Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Acts as a liaison between developers and business team members. Provides timely project status updates to the Project Manager; identifying/reporting project risks as early as possible and proactively mitigating project risks as identified. Provides expert knowledge of cross-functional and business processes.

Requires little management direction and handles extremely complex problems.Collaborates as the business lead with multiple technology groups and vendors to ensure that the application, integrations, infrastructure and securityarchitectures are designed to meet evolving business requirements, meet standards for reliability, scalability, performance and availability and align with Scotia IT&S Technology roadmap.

Education/Work Experience/Designations

The incumbent must hold a relevant and recognized degree and proven IT experience with an emphasis on highly complex systems/business initiatives.

The incumbent must have 10 to 15years of IT and business industry work experience, which includes at least 3 years of experience in managing teams or projects. Typically requires advanced technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines, technologies, and processes.

The incumbent must have expertise in very complex business and technical processes and their implications across the enterprise.

The incumbent must have expertise in project management disciplines/protocols.

The incumbent must have:

- Thorough knowledge of Bank processes.

- Thorough knowledge of Bank’s major/key business units.

- Working knowledge of Bank accounting and budgetary process.

- Expert level skills in Microsoft Excel

- Expert level skills in Microsoft BI


The incumbent is responsible for managing multiple small projects and large projects concurrently. The incumbent is also responsible for providing guidance to Business Analysts and project staff. The incumbent is expected to identify strategies and objectives and act to implement them on his/her own initiative. The incumbent is guided by Bank policy and receives broad direction from the Director.  The incumbent is expected to function independently to ensure that the department's objectives are met.
