Business Intelligence Developer at Weir Group in Salt Lake City, UT

Weir Minerals is executing a program to deploy both standardized reporting and self-service analytics capability to its business units and cross business division support staff. Currently the scope of the program is focused on providing business intelligence and broader self service analytics capability to its business units using the SAP Standard Global Template. This is accomplished by using SAP BW/4HANA connected to Power BI and Tableau. In order to meet the deployment timeline the program needs a Business Intelligence developer to help build out the Power BI ecosystem, maintain the standards and controls around the suite of Power BI reports and apps, build Power BI reports and train end users on how to conduct self-service analytics. There is also scope to help build and craft Tableau reports to aid in strategic insight

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

Objectives:

• Design, Develop and Test analytics workflows to pull data from SAP BW/4HANA into Power BI
• Build Power BI reports for divisional teams by interpreting business requirements and translating them into technical specifications
• Maintain, govern and improve the Power BI ecosystem used to house and access reports and dashboards
• Train end users, both within business units and embedded in cross divisional teams on how to use Power BI for self service analytics
• When needed, assist with the development of strategic reports in Power BI, Tableau or any other suitable platform
• Assist in developing the broader Business Intelligence and analytics strategy for the division

Measurements:

• Adoption of Power BI across the division as the tool for reporting and self service analytics
• Usage of divisional dashboards and reports

Career path:

• The current scope of work is focused on developing sophisticated analytics capability across the division using Power BI connected to SAP. In time this role will grow to include providing sophisticated predictive analytics and connecting to less structured forms of data. It will also grow to involve how to do ‘big data’ analytics both within SAP HANA and via other platforms as well as brining in insights from other platforms

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

• Degree in engineering, information technology or related field
• Proven experience with Business intelligence, with at least 3 years firm experience working in a business intelligence / analytics engineering role
• Experience in developing application portal and/or BI solutions on Power BI
• Experience in user interface design, data sourcing, data transformation, report and dashboard
• Experience in end-to-end implementation of Business Intelligence (BI) projects, especially in scorecards, KPIs, reports & dashboards
• Experience with Tableau is a plus.
