The University of Virginia School of Law seeks a Business Intelligence Developer. The primary responsibility of the position will be to create and manage business intelligence (BI) and analytics solutions for the Law School that turn data into knowledge.

The Business Intelligence Developer will be responsible for using the Law School's data to design, create, and maintain reports and analytics solutions in support of the Law School's finance and administrative operations. The position will contribute to selecting, making available, and optimizing BI tools across the Law School departments. In addition, the position will collaborate with colleagues at the Law School and the University to provide advice and requirements for data modeling, predictive analytics, data visualization, and data governance. The position reports to the Director of Budget and Analytics.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, deploy, and update BI and analytics solutions.
  • Maintain and support data analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI and Qlik).
  • Develop and maintain databases and tools to store data (e.g., Excel, Power Pivot, Power Query, SQL, Access, and Azure).
  • Collaborate with colleagues to collect data from various sources using scraping and other techniques, automate data pipelines, and integrate with cloud applications.
  • Create custom visualizations and reports for requested projects.
  • Assist in the automation of operational processes.
  • Develop and update technical and user documentation.
  • Assist in machine learning and data science development.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree plus six years of experience as a BI developer or data analyst or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical field plus two years of experience.

Other requirements include the following:

  • A background in data-related infrastructure such as data warehouses, pipelines, and databases.
  • An in-depth understanding of query tools (SQL), online analytical processing (OLAP), and extract, transform, and load (ETL) framework.
  • Experience in developing Power BI, Qlik or similar BI applications
  • Experience writing Python code and HTML/JavaScript scripts.
  • Experience in working with Azure or AWS tools/utilities
  • A problem-solving orientation and attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
