The Director Business Development will work both independently and with existing sales and customer care professionals to create business opportunities to expand current business lines and to create new business opportunities in the regulated and unregulated utility environment with a primary focus on natural gas utilities. He or she will identify and recommend new products, services and businesses including enhancements of existing offerings to improve the overall profitability, earnings and strategic positioning of the Company in its businesses as well as the Company’s efforts around renewable natural gas, compressed natural gas (CNG), and other sustainability initiatives.The candidate will have as a focus the growth of Liberty’s business through the acquisition of small (<$25 million) utilities within the region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for due diligence needed to support business development efforts and provide educated conclusions and recommendations regarding potential new product and service offerings. The successful candidate will consult with customers, corporate staff, consultants (as needed) and stakeholders in evaluating the profitability of new businesses or products;identify partnerships, alliances or strategic relationships that can add to the develop effort; and stay abreast of industry trends; and will work closely with other Business Development Professionals that hold similar roles within Liberty Utilities. This role will be based in the Company’s Gainesville or Columbus, Georgia offices and will be a direct report to the Vice President, Intrastate Utility Planning Strategy with a dotted-line report to the President of Liberty Utilities – Georgia.

On the development of new businesses and products:
Monitoring Industry Trends Regarding New Business Products
Developing Business Strategies for New Products and Businesses
Working with the Company’s sales team to identify opportunities within the current customer base
Working with third party contractors whose proprietary products or services could be marketed through the Company
Working with Company BD professionals that have similar roles in other territories to develop best practices
Conducting due diligence necessary to determine the viability of new businesses or products
Developing the appropriate documentation to support conclusions (financial, technical, regulatory, legal)
Developing presentation material necessary to gain approval of new businesses or products
On the roll-out of existing new businesses and growth projects:
Aggressively pursuing the roll-out of product lines and initiatives that the Company has in progress.
Working with the Company’s operations and engineering teams to conduct assessments of targeted acquisitions.
Working with the Company’s regulatory team to ensure regulatory considerations and approvals are completed.
Working with financial, operational, customer care, sales & marketing, legal, regulatory professionals to quickly resolve business issues
Creating methodologies for identifying new customers using marketing material and/or databases
Networking with municipalities, business councils, chambers of commerce, etc. to develop prospects
Completing progress reports and presentations for Company and parent company senior management reviews
Knowledge of natural gas and water infrastructure, including supply, storage, transportation, transmission, generation, and capacity
Knowledge of regulatory policies applicable to natural gas and water sectors.
Strong spreadsheet and analytical skills (must be able to work with Excel models)
Strong PowerPoint skills
Strong oral and written skills
5-10 years of experience in the natural gas or water sectors with an emphasis on marketing and business development.
