Support to Michael Baker involvement with American Public Works Association (APWA), Society for Marketing Professionals (SMPS), California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Women Transportation Seminar (WTS), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) , to name a few, conference coordination, facilitating new client interaction and relationship development, and teaming partner interactions.
As the Business Development Associate, you will work with the office executive and department managers to tailor a business development strategy, and implement capture strategies to achieve market growth objectives for transportation, public works, land development, stormwater, and stormwater quality throughout the Southern California counties including San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Riverside. You will manage implementation of the business development activities aimed at our high-profile clients and target clients to gather necessary intelligence, foster relationships, and create winning proposals and interview approaches for very large and important project pursuits.
Market Analysis/Pursuit Tracking
·Research market trends, client programs, upcoming projects, and determine how to position the firm and local teams to capture more of the market.
·Assist in the identification of new clients/project opportunities and analyze the needs of current/repeat clients.
·Lead internal business development meetings with department managers, project managers, subject matter experts, market and practice leads, and office executives.
·Track and prioritize pursuit opportunities using sales tracking tool.
·Facilitate pursuit opportunity go/no-go decisions.
·Lead internal and external pursuit strategy meetings as part of developing and executing Capture Plans with the objective of increasing the win probability of targeted pursuits.
·Support the development of gap analyses, competitor assessments, discriminators and key win themes, and overall win strategy/value proposition.
·Assist with external teaming arrangements and partnerships to include identifying, selecting, and recruiting consultant partners and subconsultants.
·Storyboard the strategy and messaging for targeted pursuits, including all elements to craft a winning proposal.
Marketing/Proposal Production Support
·Lead the development of strategic, high-profile, and must-win proposals.
·Coordinate with Proposal Development for additional qualifications information (i.e. firm profile, resume, representative projects) and graphic design support, as needed.
·Transition capture plans into proposal submittals – ensure win themes, strategic messaging, and value propositions are woven into the proposal production process.
·Draft proposal narratives with strategic messaging and value propositions.
·Provide review and quality control on proposals submitted.
·Relationship Management in the Community
·Participate in industry organizations (e.g. conferences, seminars, association meetings, etc.).
·Seek opportunity to serve on an industry organization committee and/or board leadership position.
·Attend client meetings (e.g. board or committee meetings, pre-proposal conference meetings, etc.).
·Maintain relationships with subconsultants, teaming partners, and clients.
·Participate in community organizations and events to stay apprised of emerging trends that influence practice.
·Support trade show sponsorships, exhibitions, promotions, advertising, packaging, shipping, and travel (when necessary).
·Lead the development of various completed project award submissions for internal and external clients.
·Adhere to Michael Baker’s branding guidelines.
·Assist with the coordination of advertising schedules and placement.
·Assist with the creation of collateral materials.
·Minimum 7 years of A/E/C industry experience; 10+ years preferred.
·Ability to multi-task and work effectively under stress and tight deadlines.
·Demonstrated collaborative team leadership and team building characteristics. A coach/player who can empower, collaborate, and delegate when and where necessary, while remaining personally accountable for the overall capture and proposal effort.
·Excellent marketing skills with ability to demonstrate marketing savvy and know how
·Strategic thinker with high ethical and business standards.
·Excellent computer skills with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) is preferred.
